I want to get my dad 500-1000 bullets for his Uberti 1873 cattleman in 38-40. Where can I order these or buy them around Ottawa? Its much appreciated because I don't know much about reloading.

That rifle is going to shoot best with a good cast bullet instead of a jacketed. If he's shooting in cowboy action with it then the rules also call for cast ONLY. So all in all I'd suggest that cast is the way to go.

But then if he's shooting in cowboy action events I'd suspect that he already has a source of proper size bullets for his own reloading. If you can't find out where that is by having your mom sneak a peak or "just bring it up" over a meal then maybe just give him a gift certificate to wherever he shops for this stuff. If you're both shooters it should not be hard to figure out where he's getting his goodies.

If it's a case of him having a rifle and some brass but doesn't know where to buy any bullets for it then perhaps locate the local cowboy action group and ask them where they shop for lead. It shouldn't take more than a call or two to someone in a local club that hosts cowboy action shooting to find out where they buy their supplies.

I'm on the far end of the country but if you get really desperate you could order from The Bullet Barn. You can order this directly from Bullet Barn or through Rusty Wood Trading. Shipping from the West Coast will be a little high but if you're desperate enough for the right size then it's an option.

The .38-40 uses .401" bullets.
That Uberti 1873 Cattleman can be a repro revolver. However, you sure it's a .38-40? Uberti doesn't list that chambering in their revolver or rifle. .44-40 maybe? That uses a .427" bullet. It's kind of important.

Thanks guys I'll check those places out. He's never shot the gun before and I'm sure its Uberti revolver in 38-40 because I bought it for him. I've had the reloading setup for a couple years but just haven't had the time to learn and reload anything. I've got the brass and dies but hadn't got around to getting him bullets.
