Well, just to update the earlier thread I bought one of these "grade 1" SKS. It arrived today...a 1954 Izzy that seems just as nice as described. All the numbers I can find match and I don't see any of those square refurb marks on the receiver. The wood is in really good shape and there are only one or two tiny nicks in the bluing. Looks like a pretty decent job was done removing the cosmoline with only the odd dried fleck visible under a magnifying glass. I don't know a whole bunch about these guns but i can say this one looks a lot better than what I see in the racks at Crappy Tire at $179-199. Overall I'm happy with my purchase so far and glad i decided to spend the extra $70-80...now to get it to the range!

Wow....I guess it really was a grade 1 ;) It wouldnt be original, non sanded stock would it? That would be too much to ask. Great SKS you got there.

I doubt it's a non-refurb. Besides the blued bayonet, I see that the gas tube has an electro-penciled number (Is that what they call "force matched"?). It is,however still in very, very nice condition.

They all have electro-penciled numbers on the gas tube but it is a very nice refurb. I wonder if their other "Very Good Condition" SKS's are blued or BBQ painted since it doesn't say.

I got one of their "Grade 1" sks's back in November. Just got back from the range and did a 10 round function test. It worked as expected.

I don't have a sight tool and the 25 yard spot was taken the whole time I was at the range, so I didn't even fire them at targets. Tomorrow I'll break out some paper and see what's what.

Very nice SKS you have there! Enjoy it!

If you are interested I'd call and ask if i was you. Bulls Eye seems like a pretty good company in terms of customer service. I suspect they'd give you an honest opinion.

I think I've been bitten by the SKS bug....just ordered a 1000 rounds of non corrosive 7.62x39 from another forum sponsor.
.

I bought one from Cdn Tire with my Cdn Tire money. Glad I didn't have to pay an extra $70.00 for it. Out of the Billions of SKS's out there, glad you aquired an uber rare one!

I have found every Non refurbished originals the gas tube electro penciling is under the gastube where you can't see it without removing gas tube. The refurb ones the electropenciling will be on the side visible when it is still installed.

Mine is visible on the side with the rifle assembled.

Actually I think I read that they made something like 15 million.....not billions ;)........ and no, I wasn't suggesting that these are in any way "uber rare", just in quite a bit nicer cosmetic condition than the run of the mill ones I've seen offered. Glad you like yours.

Mine has electro penciling under the gastube where you can't see it without removal and it is a refurb. Although there are no refurb stamps but I don't have the original stock, mag or bayo but it's matching number.

The gas tube wasn't replaced then but with black bayo it has been refurbed to some extent. Ones where the gas tube has been replaced will invariably be electropenciled on the side. The whole gun has to be taken into accout to say refurb or not. We can only go by the few small pics to tell. but regardless they were refurbed because of the black bayo. But look to be in excellent condition.
