Bullseye powder and 124 gr LRN 9mm load

Any suggested load for 124 gr LRN and Bullseye powder for indoor shooting? I tried 3.8 gr 1.116 OAL. I am not sure if the impact on the paper target is an issue. Most of the time, I get a good cut in the paper target (perpendicular impact). At least 25% of the time, impact on paper is way to big. It looks like the bullet is cutting into the paper slightly diagonal. Is there any effect on accuracy the way the bullet is seated?
 
I have been loading the 125 grain LRN for quite a while and no problems, I also use bullseye powder and 3.5 grains, never a problem with the impact on the target nice holes all the time, easy to score etc.
 
I use Red Dot myself behind 124 gr RNL, but if the completed round looks OK and feeds OK, then it should fire OK. This isn't F-class super-accuracy target competitions we're talking about and a very minor misalignment of the seated bullet shouldn't make that much difference.

A couple of guesses.

Have you miked the bullets to ensure they're the right diameter (IIRC 0.355")? Stranger things have happened.

Have you had the same problem with other loads, other bullets? If so, it may be a barrel problem.

No mixing. I use DRG 124gr LRN, but it weighs 128 gr on my scale. One thing I noticed is the inconsistent diameter of the brass while sizing. Some feeds easily through the decapper and resizer, some needs double the effort to complete the stroke on a turret press. As I shoot, most of my reloads punches very nice holes. And as mentioned above, some punches inconsistently sized holes. Barrel is good, CZ 85 Combat is just under 500 rds. And there is no problem with accuracy. And if I use conical or better with SWC hardcast bullets, holes on paper are much consistently clean.
 
I test a powder at the Start load and then in 0.3 increments, to see what cycles and groups best.

The low velocity loads often rip the paper with vertical rips. higher velocity loads punch round holes. But 3.8 of Bullseye is a snappy load, so I don't think it would be low velocity.

Have you checked barrel for leading?
 
Try shooting at cardboard. It won't tear, so you will know whether your bullets are keyholing, or just tearing the paper.

I would agree with this and with Ganderite before. It's entirely possible that there was less support behind the longer holes, maybe a bullet hole in the backstop.

I wouldn't get too concerned about the brass. A case expands when the round is fired, then contracts slightly when the pressure drops. Different brands of brass might contract differently or even different production lots within one brand.

Cardboard did the trick. Indeed, it was the lack of support behind the target paper.
