BUM, you must a bachelor, few married men would get away with a trip like that :)

The key if you are married is to take the little lady along. Having the memories to share with each other is wonderful. My wife was very apprehensive about going - mostly because of the perceived danger displayed in certain hunting videos. Once she was there she loved it, and would go again in a heartbeat.

Or find a wife with a really good job who doesn't resent your passions. My wife is being very supportive of my trip with my son in July, actually she will end up paying for probably half of it. For my son and I he's finishing High School, we can afford it today, she's onside. When my daughter finishes High School in 4 years, they will likely go to Europe and I'll stay behind and help pay for it. We just make sure the money we spend on stuff like this doesn't get in the way of things like food, shelter or retirement.

I had no idea gemsbok had luggage racks...:D

Looks like a great trip! You need a rifle carrier next time by any chance?;)

That was my strategy as well last year. This year I'm going with friends, but I'm really thinking of taking the wife on the next one after that.

Back40,
Come on with the buffalo pictures already. You're killing me with suspense!:D

Thanks to Back40 for stepping in here. I'll have more time, and faster internet, when I get home from my parent's place. I'll post a kit and clothing list that I used, not that any of it is particularly special. Suffice it to say that I did some walking while I was there that left me soaked through the shirt, though I'm not sure if that was the actual heat, or the pressure of stalking kudu through rhino country!

First installment of the taxidermy bill arrived today. Gotta get back to work to pay it off!

Anyone with specific pricing questions or who want to contact our consultant, fire me a PM and we'll hook you up with his website and email as he isn't a member or dealer here.

And like I've said to a few people on here...anyone can afford one of these trips with a little planning. My payments were spread out over a year (bought my plane ticket in November and won't finish paying for taxidermy and shipping until this fall). Given what some people spend in a year on movies, eating out, or beer and cigarettes, there is lots of disposable income out there...just be creative in finding it. Trust me, it's worth it!

Jfroot, never got around to the Zebra, but, the Kudu and Springbok are very good and were a group favorite. One of the things that our hosts did was give us a chance to try all the critters we were hunting. All the meat goes to the SlagHuis for use but of course some animals are better for table fare than others. Also, if any one has some questions about going don't hesitate to pm with them. Would like to thank Dogleg and Boomer for their help and advice, it is people like them that make these internet boards such a useful tool and a good experience. Thanks again , gentlemen.

Back40sniper, your first pic of the buff is an excellent example of the problems which can be faced by the hunter. Our problem was long grass, and in thick grass, 12' high you could see even less of them. We could hear them, smell them, and feel the ground shake when the ran around us, but we never saw more than a patch of hide or the sun glint off a horn. That was probably the most intense hunting experience I've ever had - and it was fantastic!

Our favorite meat, I think wart hog and impala are tops - impala cooked whole, over coals that is.
