hey

i have been a member here for a bit and have been lurking for quite some time. i bought my first rifle last summer which is a browning bbr in 7mm mag topped with a leupold vari 1.5-5 scope, i really like this rifle but i find the trigger extremely heavy, is this something i can do myself or should i take it in. i know i need to get the stock shortened should i just purchase an aftermarket synthetic stock and shorten that because the wood one is just so pretty. also when at the range i find that after 3 maybe 4 shots the groupings go for a total crap. what can do about this or is this just what i get for using a hunting rifle as a bench gun?

i also just bought i nice little win model 94 winchester in 30-30. this gun is great for what it is but i want something in the middle.

i will be doing mostly hike in hunts for black tail deer and bear. i was thinking that a ruger compact in .308 or 7mm-08 or even an xbolt micro hunter in the same calibers might just be the cats meow for this. my only hangup is that i would prefer something in stainless with a synthetic stock. does such a gun from the factory exist?

thanks for the input

mmmm kool-aid thanks....... take me to your leader...... yawn let me have a nap first.

i will have to do some more interneting now.... i'm not totally stellar at metric conversion but im pretty sure that the tikka is still a fair bit longer, the ruger compact only has a 16.5" barrel on it.

thanks

Ruger Ultralight and the Remington M7 both have 20" barrels, although they only come in wood/blued these days... You can buy any stainless synthetic and have the barrel cut to your specs. (only down to 18.5" though)

Ruger compact comes in stainless with a laminated stock. I own one in .223 that I love. Am thinking of the .308. Don't know where you are from Fuzzy, but I know there is a Ruger compact in 7mm-08 sitting in P & D in Edmonton. Saw it there just yesterday. Beautiful little gun.

im on the wet west coast, so goin to p&d isnt really an option for me. does anyone have some feedback on the ruger compacts? any one have some input on the questions about the bbr?

thanks fuzzy

21st century dude...UPS makes the planet small.

Get the Ruger...As a wet coaster I'm used to the slip and slid we call coastal hunting...No place for a gun that wont take some abuse.
Good scope BTW! ;)

Look at the plastic on a T3 and tell me how long it will live around here?
Not a fan, but I did buy my father one for interior hunting.

Whatever floats your boat.

wow my collection started the same as yours.

i first got a ruger no1 7mag (love my dads 7mm bbr except for goofy hinge plate clip design)
then a mod 94 30-30
i filled the void looking for a light tough rifle the same as you are try to do with my tikka t3 lite stainless .338 federal.
with 180s it shoots flatter than 30-06 or .308 but use a .308 case.
ruger makes one too in 338fed

P&D is awesome, they could do a fax order for you and you'd have it in a couple days, and it's non-restricted so it's no sweat. You usually can't beat their prices and you definitely can't beat the service.

I would go with a Tikka Battue with its shorter barrel. I have a Ruger compact 308.Nice little toy but it has no clip and groups are a typical Ruger size 3inches at 100 yds. for those of you that get 0.25 MOA with your Ruger don't sell it you may never find another one like it.

thanks for the input guys
i was just at a local gunstore and what do you know they had a ruger compact in .308 seems like a nice handling gun and well built gun. i didnt realise that rugers bolt rifles were known for there inaccuracy i thought that was mainly the mini14 and 30. also im not overly worried about not having a detachable mag. im used to just top loading my bbr.

BLRs are not target rifles they are hunting rifles. they have a "thin" barrell and after 3 shots they warm up and groups open up.

Trigger may be a little heavy, but again, its a hunting rifle what more does a guy need to shoot a deer/moose/ bear etc..

the ruger faling block is a 3 inch shooter too!
til you upgrade trigger, forend, hammer and increase COL. lol
