Me and a friend were out for a drive on his farm yesterday, had his .22 an old cooey single shot honestly never seen a gun that beat up in my life shoots about 6" high at 50 yards and then it's set to the lowest, you get the idea I was
Literally riding shotgun with my Baikal I bought from a gun nut. So a bunny runs across the grid-road but Mike misses and Boer-seun is too slow out of the cab.
Right, 100yards farther another bunny, I only had some light trap loads with me but get within 3yards and took a shot hit him but took another to finish it of.
We must have seen 5 or 6 bunnys driving around for an hour and a half.
The last one made the fatal mistake of trying to out run my fat-ass in a field of weat stubble.
I ran about 200m in that field and bunny decides to stops took, 3 shots to finally kill him.
Well the stew will be great I am sure but what would be the best size shot to use on bunnys. without wasteing all the meat? I only ever used a .22 for them but like the shotty more
 
I'd think the 22 would be better.. one shot kill and less lead to pick out of your meat.
 
I use the trusty old 12 pump for bunnies down here, but they're a little harder to hit when they're running through heavy woods being chased by a dog. It's always a fun hunt with a good rabbit dog. I can't wait for October to roll around again.
 
.410 w/ number 6 or 7 makes short work of attacking bunnies.:mad:

I don't think there is a specified season for rabbits in sask. I know the 222 with a 50 gr v-max will blow their heads off out to about 300yds.
 
no bunny season here, just like cayotes we can hunt 'em all year round. As for them haveing babies we make sure that we shoot the babies too :)
I was trying to find some decent shells (#4) at crappy tire but they were out only work a couple of blocks from wholesale so will stop by there.
I enjoy bunny huntin' but don't have a dog so I just try to kick them up, what are those of you who are with out a k9's strategy?
 
make sure you know where your dogs are before you shoot the rabbitt. sounds pretty common sense but you wouldnt believe how many people have killed their own dogs by not paying attention to where the dogs are at.

yeah, tell me about it. I was in with a guy one day who ended up putting a load of #4 in his dogs tail and rear quarter. I have'nt been in with him since. He says he fired at the rabbit but I think he thought the dog was the rabbit. The rabbit passed by me seconds before he pulled the trigger.

My very limited rabbit hunting experience has taught me that rabbits run in a circle. If you scare one out of the bushes and you don't have a dog, 'chase' it on foot and have a buddy stay near where it was flushed. It'll circle back around (most of the time) and buddy blams it.

Otherwise, I try to catch them standing around and pop em with the 22.
