Burlington (BRRC) 1 Day CQB Clinic 15 Feb 2014

Only a couple more sleeps. Any questions before we get going and gather for 0830 at BRRC on Saturday morning?

Classroom session in the morning to setup your rifle/pistol combination, your vest, your pouches, your magazines, your shooting rucksack/knapsack/3 day pack/shooting bag etc.

Once you finish with me, you will be ready for the ORA Langemark Range CQB matches and future clinics!

Bring on the last minute questions right here! :D

Cheers,
Barney

Everyone should have a letter of invite now. If not, grab a copy off of http://rangeburlington.ca/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Range_Burlington_Invite_Letter.pdf and stick it in your range bag or on your smart phone.

I've also fixed my PM notification to email setting on CGN

Dress extra warm, its forecast to be -7 outdoors, so indoors down range with the air handling, it may be as cold as -15-20 (with the windchill from the air handlers).

Ah heck, I think I mentioned this in the wrong forum, but the short of it is that the letter didn't work for me since I don't already have an ORA LTATT (not having done the ORA course yet) and it wasn't specifically addressed to me nor was signed by a board member. So, can't bring my restricteds. I can do, I suppose, most of the drills and stances with my SR-22, but I'll have no pistol unless someone can arrange for a loaner. Still really looking forward to coming down and learning a whole lot :)

I am bringing an extra pistol. An m&p 22. You are welcome to borrow it.

The only 22 ammo I got that I trust is CCI Stingers; otherwise all I have is sub-sonic stuff or this bulk stuff with so much wax on it I refuse to risk it in a semi. However, I hear some people saying all they feed their M&P22 is stingers, other folks saying not to use it. I'll be using it in my rifle, but are you OK with that in your pistol? What would you like to see it fed?

I am not too concerned. I have a box of CCI Minimags(100 rounds) or you can use the stingers. I have found it isn't always reliable with M22s in the cold weather but I think the CCI Minimags are pretty good.

The holster I have is mounted to a paddle(Blackhawk Serpa CQC) so you should be able to tuck it into a belt.

Well, that was a fantastic time! Many thanks to all, especially Klatham for the loaner. Christ am I sore.

Which reminds me... I haven't had success in searching for the modular system I saw a couple folks (Klatham) wearing - I forgot some of what was related to me -, that would allow you to wear the same holster on a drop leg mount, or take it off and mount it across the chest under the chin, as Barney mentioned. It was a Serpa, anyone have the model # handy?

Mine is a Blackhawk Serpa CQC with the QD mount. There is also the S.T.R.I.K.E. platform for mounting it to a chest rig.

It was a great clinic and lots of fun! I am glad I packed some advil lol.

Thanks Hungry and Skeetgunner for putting this on! It was worth the drive!

Hey guys, when you're mounting you pistols to your chest rig, where does the muzzle sweep on the draw?
Hey Bolivar,

It is just something Hungry mentioned at the clinic but I don't see how you could safely draw without sweeping someone at the range. I understand how it could be used operationally and that is the context in which he mentioned it. I should have probably sent that part in a PM to blsonne as it was a continuation of a conversation we were having at the clinic.

I guess I will see you at some matches. I have already registered for the first three and I be registering for the rest!

That is a good point about safety. Damn good point actually, seems like if you stuck one of those laser boresighters in it the beam would probably come out right on the guy next to you's flank/lungs. Think I'll be sticking to the leg or the hip, no need to wear it up top for someone like me lol :)

Sounds good Klatham and blsonne. You picked up what I was layin' down.

I'll be at the first match as ARO and then not back till the championship. My competition / family schedule is typically crazy this year so CQB gets shoved to the back burner for me. This is why I get my arse kicked at the championship every year. It's the first match I shoot and all you guys get out lots and develop your skills while having a blast (pun unavoidable) at matches leading up to it. :)

Has anyone actually done CQB indoors?

Snapshot

We have now! :dancingbanana:

With some great students and some expert instruction from our favorite mentor, the BRRC indoor CQB clinic and proof of concept "match" was a complete SUCCESS! This opens the door to many possibilities, some of which Hungry and I still have to get our heads around. We'll certainly run another clinic in the late fall for sure!

Christ am I sore.

Amen to that brother! CQB is like rifle aerobics for f-class shooters. :p

It was a Serpa, anyone have the model # handy?

I think it was Safariland holsters on G-code mounts.

Thanks Hungry and Skeetgunner for putting this on! It was worth the drive!

And thanks for helping out! Glad everyone had a great day and a super fun time.
