I live north of hwy 5 above burlington ON. i have recently got my first firearm and just today stripped it and cleaned it. i am VERY much looking for a place to shoot. the real kicker is that the property that i have lived at for a lot of my life is a huge forest with ample opportunity to shoot back there and be well within my legality, but it belongs to my parents and they are not on board with my owning a gun. :slap:

ok, so there is burlington range, where i can go to shoot.

my problems with burlington range is that their website is incredibly annoying, it rejected my email before i could even apply! it just said my email has been banned, when i for the first time tried to sign up. furthermore ive called them 4 times and no one has picked up. i emailed them and noone has replied, they require you t do a safety course, they only do annual memberships, and i am leaving in a month and a half, you have to go through a mandatory wait period and attend the gun range a whole bunch over a month and a half BEFORE you even get full membership. they make u pay for the extra safety course too.

PLEASE . i wanna love shooting but i need somewhere to shoot. SOMEWHERE. i have a car and can drive. but not a HUGE distance, thats just ridiculous. if someone has a home range that i can buy a membership for, please, i just want to shoot it!
 
If you just want to go somewhere and shoot, go to Silverdale. You don't need to join, you can shoot for 20 bucks on the weekend.
 
Your first mistake Is thinking of the burlington club. Silverdale is down the road from you, will be a better choice, Far too many issues with burlington, just steer clear.

We don't allow registration from generic email addresses like hotmail, gmail, etc. We say this on the front page of our web site and in the FAQ section of the forums (which is world readable and doesn't need registration to view). Sorry you missed it.

Inquiries to any of the posted email addresses will trip an auto-responder that providers our registration policy, common links and additional email contact information. Perhaps it went to your spam folder? Sorry you missed it.

The safety course is mandatory and is part of the new member initiation fees. There are six mandatory observation nights, which can be completed at your own pace. Most do it in a week, some do it in 6 months.

We don't offer daily/weekly/monthly memberships, its makes LATT processing even more of a #####.

Silverdale, Hamilton Gun Club, Waterdown, Waterford, Hamilton Anglers and Hunters Association are all within an aprox 30min drive from the club.

I had no issues with BRRC ... Yes it's annoying to have to do extra safety courses but it's just another hoop the gov't wants us to jump through to be able to enjoy having these ranges available... Even with Silverdale (which is where I currently am a member) there are still safety courses ... Hell, there's even a probationary period where you need to shoot the range pistols/revolvers before they will file your LTATT paperwork so it really doesnt matter where you look cuz there's going to be extra "hoops" to jump through...
My advice would be to get involved with the club that offers you what your looking for... I shoot a variety of firearms and enjoy the fact I can shoot a little of everything in one afternoon but the choice is ultimately yours... Enjoy... Skeetgunner should be able to help ya out regarding BRRC...

But that would be a lie. Perhaps if you repeat it often enough, some may believe you...but most wont.

Range Burlington, aka the Burlington Rifle and Revolver Club is 1,600+ member club in north Burlington. In its present form, its a 11-port, heated, indoor range, with a backstop rated for all legal calibers and approved for pistol, IPSC, Rifle, Silhoute, BP, PPC, Airgun, Western and general plinking. It is a 24/7 access club, with functioning, well attended leagues running most days of the week. Our pistol section dominates southern Ontario, our IPSC section owns the Triangle Match and our Juniors section continues to medal at the Ontario Winter/Summer Games and at Campy Perry in the US. Our rifle section is affiliated with the ORA, and we have a few dozen international shooters using the facility.

Our Board of Directors is responsive to the members needs, supports a robust web presence and is enabling electronic renewals and e-commerce in late 2010/early 2011. Additionally, the facility is located on park land reclaimed from a town dump (and while this may appear unsavory) it is free from urban sprawl until 2072.

While it is not without a few faults, Range Burlington is fast becoming the premier Shooting club in the greater Toronto Area. Our safety course is a tad redundant and the observation nights are (in my opinion) a bit of a PITA. The range is short, at 50 yards, and its popularity makes it a busy place. We are not a clays club, nor do we have trout pond, and archery is right out. We simply don't have the space for those activities. The success of our club speakers louder than its detractors.
 
thanks skeetshooter for the info, no disrespect meant to range burlington. it just doesnt really apply for me. and silverdale seems really perfect its just 2 hours of driving in total there and back...
 
Over the years I've been to a LOT of clubs. I've got it down to Burlington and Silverdale. With the exception of some bullsh*t rules that were in place for a short time, it's been a great club for me. In fact, the rules were only put in place because some douchebags were destroying the place. I guess that'll happen when you have 24-hour access.

Silverdale is pretty darn good. While its a long drive for me, it's the best I can get within that distance.

I've not seen a club to this day that is without some kind of quirk or political BS. Get over it, help change it, or move on.

Have you (BRRC Board of Directors) considered and is there realistic chance of automatic returning targets being installed at the Range Burlington?

Would you expand on that and tell us why would you possibly not want to do it, because that is perhaps one last detail that would make you truly stand out above the rest.

I'm not a civil engineer, nor do I play one on the internet, but its been explained to me that the existing roof design (wood trusses and amor plate baffles) is too low and too difficult to retrofit an automated target return system.

If we are able to raise funds for a new roof, the approved design calls for the raising of the side walls by almost 2m; giving us the headroom required for a returning target system. Even then, a returning target system would have to be designed and funded.

Does that help answer your Lanis? There's no doubt that a returning target system would make RB into a better facility.

Certainly there are some people upset by this. But increasing membership numbers suggests that the mass rage-quit that was predicted over the CSSA/CFI split never happened. I'm sure some did leave the club, but it was contained within our anual churn. And member churn has been decreasing steadily for the last 3 years. Judging by the pro-cssa/anti-cfi turnout (ie: zero) at our two AGM's and 18 BoD meetings since the move to the CFI, empirical evidence suggests that the majority of BRRC members are supportive or more likely agnostic.
