Burlington, ON

x2 on Galt.

Perhaps you might also look into Hamilton gun ranges, and Silverdale is always most recommended choice. :)

Which is sort of how this thread started. If the OP is unhappy with BRRC's enrolement process, he's not gonna like Wentworth's safety program, and HAHA is just as far as Silverdale for him.

im starting to realize that the gun club situation in canada is :bsFlag:

Even where i'm moving in a month and a half i have to drive over an hour to get to a gun club... the closest one to me is burlington. and there rules dont work for anyone wanting to go for less than a year or who just want to go and shoot. so yes i realize that there is one nearby that just does not meet my expectations, but i absolutely believe that SOME other people would be in the same boat. silverdale is FAR! for whoever said down the road its over an hour away. sent an email to H.A.H.A asking about thier membership details, (annual, pricing, safety courses) basically how long until i can go and shoot. even H.A.H.A is about 45 mins. and all these god damn gun clubs (even if its not thier fault) make you jump through insane hoops to shoot. more people should start up these gun clubs.

so i guess my question is. is there any other gun clubs. NEARBY. that offer monthly weekly or daily memberships. or something like Silverdale where you can go on weekends

There is always guelph rod and gun club, makes burlington seem like a pile of puke in comparison! The distance from burlington isn't that bad just take guelph line down to 401 and its about 15 from the 401, veryyyy easy safety course, and your good to go after that.

Their year end is in october so it would cost you $60 until then, plus $90 for the safety course.

guelph sounds great. but thier website says annual memberships.. can you go there and shoot without a membership?

You can if you have a friend who's a member ;) memberships run from oct to oct so if you signed up not it would cost you either $60 or $40 till end of the year, plus $90 for safety course.

hmmm thats a definite maybe.

so what did you mean oct to oct? they dont make u pay for the months you dont use? and it ends in dec?

it also says that probationary periods last for one year. could i still use all the ranges? (more importantly the rifle range)

It ends in october not december, and yes they only make you pay for the months that are left until october which in your case is 3 months max :) safety course is super quick and very enjoyable unlike nazi burlington puke fest.

You can use all the ranges, you just can't be the only person at the range, there always has to be a minimum of 2 people at the range, trust me once you get on their online forum its easy as pie to meet people willing to shoot when you want to shoot.

wow well that sounds really great. under their probationary period can i shoot my own firearms?

also once again NO DISRESPECT to BRRC please. but i do thank you for your advice. guelph is closer than the rest.

I see where you're coming from, but bear in mind you're asking for something that's not logical. You move to the GTA and you want hundreds of yards of open range for shooting? The income of a range couldn't even come close to covering the property tax for such land in the GTA.

You want a range close by that's pay-as-you-go? Compare that to golfing in the GTA and you'll be paying at least 80 bucks each time with some clubs upwards of 200 dollars a round!!

Save some money, join a club, support our ranges.

.. moving in a month and a half.... so i dont want to pay for a full annual membership. that being said guelph sounds just right. any info on the oakville club?

^^ Galt maybe?
OP wants an indoor range. Galt's indoor is closed for renovations. Besides there is no short term membership and a similar probation to BRRC.

From the litany of demands, complaints and whining he seems to be posting it doesn't sound like he will find what he wants or be satisifed anywhere.

If you don't like hoops, brother... you're not gonna like Guelph. While the members and in particular the safety director seem like great people, the range is simply plagued with overbearing requirements.

1) Can't shoot alone, period!
2) With two people, only one can shoot at a time
3) Need to do 12 (observed) safe shoots
4) Need to do RSO course if you want to take guests
5) Cannot complete RSO course until you've been a member for a year

These are ridiculous requirements and need to be changed for the club to succeed. It must be crippling their membership, which is sad because it will lead to another range in SWO biting the dust.

By comparison, Burlington is respectable.

1) Can shoot alone, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
2) Everyone is trained to be an RSO from day 1 as part of the safety course
3) Need to do 6 observation days. These are great - each shows a different discipline and acts as an intro for those who aren't familiar with a particular discipline.
4) Bring guests anytime - limit each guest to a couple times, encouraged to join.
5) One of the cheapest yearly memberships around, if not the cheapest.

If I'm mistaken on any of these the Burlington guys will fix me.

shut up. i never said had to be indoor. litany of demands. seriously. shut the f*** up. i asked for something with pay as you go (or even monthly), not 1:10 minutes away, that i can shoot at within a month.... so please dont comment in this thread if your too lazy to read my post. everyone else thankyou. seriously though dont come back in here.

couldnt find their website though.

There isn't one. Its a virtual club, has been for the last 30 years or so. Its just a drinking and "stories by the hot stove" club now. Was located off 6th line back in the day, but its been houses and subdivision for decades now. A fate that will likely overtake many clubs in the next decade or so.

Pretty much this. Assuming you have money left over after suing the City, Region and Province to give you the building permits to pay for the land and clubhouse. Indoor ranges on industrial land have it a bit easier....

Partnering with an established golf course might be an idea, if they were willing to give up a hole or three. And a lot of the private golf clubs are well heeled enough to do this.

That is correct, rifle membership at Galt is closed.

Also, hoop jumping is well and alive over there, and makes BRRC look like welcome house in comparison.

Unfortunately, there is absolutely no easy way to become a member of a gun club in GTA, unless you join privately owned club, which is either too expensive or too far.

Where are you moving to exactly?

Regards,
Dan

I think people should stop responding to this guy. Only joins in June 2010, 0 trader rating, 20 posts, and he is telling members to "shut up" and "shut the f*** up"? Who is this guy? He is whining. Nowhere can you join a club for only a month. The liability alone for a gun club prevents this. You have to be properly vetted before they will allow you unfettered access. The pay by the hour places assume you are vetted already because most people who use these type of places belong to other gun clubs and already have their ATT's at least in Ontario, but it is harder when it is someone without restricted's since no vetting was involved as there is no ATT. I was considering to take him as a guest for him to shoot his rifle, but I'm afraid he'll tell me to "shut up".

As to # 2... Wrong.
For example if there's an RSO and another shooter... Both people may shoot at the same time.

I feel the RSO program is a PITA too, but really... In practical terms it only affects range 1 and 4. The IPSC pits (2 & 3) are action ranges where we've only ever had one active shooter at a time anyway.

The club has succeeded since 1956... I think it will continue to do so.

1. The RSO program was dictated by the CFO so if it gets changed it'll have to come from on high.

2. "Crippling Membership"??? Well... the last new member safety class had 30 plus participants...

3. "another range in SWO biting the dust"..? I can't think of any club that has closed because of a membership issue.
