Burlington, ON

oh! sorry i missed that last time round. bracebridge area so i figured i might try to go to Orillia. im gonna be going to nippising U muskoka campus for cultural studies ... lifestory kinda but..

edit. not in rez. edit

I am not really sure what is such urgency to shoot locally.

Good question for you would be, what is good range in Bracebridge area, don't you think?

Of all the clubs that we mentioned, almost NONE of them will allow you to just show up and start banging away with your gun.

Now, let's see which ones will...

Silverdale on weekends accepts guests at 20 dollars a pop.

Target Sports also, but more expensive.

Maybe Shooters choice in Waterloo, but call them first to make sure.

End of the list.

Keep in mind that gun shooters are mainly mature and conservative people, that expect you to behave in safety minded manner.

Ask whatever you are not sure about and be ready to apologize when you make an honest/ obvious mistake.

Shooting sports are very precise and serious hobby, that can bring about catastrophic consequences if not taken seriously enough.

Good luck.

thanks, and no crazy urgency i would like to shoot my gun for the first time that i've had ammo sitting there for for 3 weeks now. and i wanna shoot it before bracebridge.. as mentioned. then once i get to bracebridge i plan on joining a club to go to for a longer period of time, to get to know the sport.

I realize i am not an old guy wise in the ways of the world, but it is a good time to start learning gun safety and the place of guns in our world. i do not think i have expressed my lack of serious-ness for shooting sports once in this forum but i thank you for your warnings and ill keep them in my mind.

burlington has this ridiculous rule (besides others) that if you call a gun a weapon you have to put a dollar into a jar

Actually, its an unofficial Safety Course rule that started out as a satirical attempt to reverse some of the social engineering around firearms in Canada. The new shooters don't mind, and the ex-military types tend to end up buying all the coffee and donuts for the other shooters. :p

A and you HAVE to see 6 other disciplines 5 of which you dont give a s**t about...
This is probably the biggest complaint about the club, and one I have voted against. We don't make anyone watch the Juniors, Airgun or Western sections either, its an anachronism that is time to go.

and... its a 24 hr club except all decent shooting times are taken up by disciplinary shoot times... so if you dont like heading out at 10 at night with firearms and ammo... its' not the club for you...

BRRC has quite a few shift workers, either at Stelco, Dofasco, Ford or in some municipal service (fire, ambulance, police, security, medical etc). You'd be surprised at how busy the club is after midnight the month before hunting season. So while we are not truly a 24/7 club (its more like 127 hours out of 168) we're open a lot longer than most area clubs.

I never understood why people #####ed and moaned about it and hardly find it ridiculous. I always saw it as an opportunity to see the different disciplines up close and sometimes take part in it. I think it also gives one an appreciation for the other members of the club and the nuances they bring to the line when you're shooting alongside them.

I just don't get what the big deal is. Perhaps I have more respect for marksman in general??

Speaking personally, I think it annoys the more experienced shooters (especially those that competed at Burlington and have chosen to join the club because of having competed there) while it confounds and frustrates the new shooters (who are eager and see it as a barrier to full membership.) I have no issue with making it optional, or even reducing fees if you complete it.

Western section

Can you tell us more about western section?

I am few years above threshold for junior section, but I can sure see you guys making a case for making western section becoming one more night on requirement list. :p

The Juniors section is pretty dang interesting. Mind you it would involve an early Saturday morning trip, but after speaking to the Director and some of the section members, I gotta say I'm profoundly impressed with their skill and knowledge.

I digress :)

My FINAL comment about Burlington. There is a remote controlled airplane/helicopter club complete with landing strip and taxi lanes right next door. It's freaking awesome to see them fly. Worth the visit if you're looking for a comparably expensive hobby. I bet most of the range members didn't even know it was there.

Ohh great.... that means if I go there I'll have to carry a roll of loonies w/me! lol

As for the other sections I agree.. it has to go plain and simple. Have it available for others to see if they want but making it a rule is just dumb. Almost as absurd as the black powder parts of the RPAL etc... promptly followed by "seek professional training" etc before trying black powder.

Oh cool! Burlington has new action targets!!! :ar15:

I find BRRC to be a good club sure it has its issues but all clubs have them,
look deep enough every club has its ups and downs, opinions are like a$$holes everyone has one :D

SG,

Still waiting for info on western section.

Is there one? Details pls.

Just what's in the Western Forum. Which isn't much.:( The Western Director is the editor of the SASS Canada news letter. Drop him a PM on the site?

They only shoot the last sunday of the month, Nov-March.
