Hey reloaders,

Decided to try to be a little educational with some scrap powder. This is the leftovers from two of my containers, IMR 4350 and IMR 7828. I didn't weigh it or anything... I kinda wish I did. Or to do it with a regular load...

Take it for what it's worth.

And that would be why it's considered safe for transport without hazmat procedures. And why proper black powder isn't.

I've seen that same thing with a big shovel full of unburnt powder on an indoor range that we swept up at the end of the night. I was WAY back as they set it alight. They laughed at me.

Here is a video i made igniting pistol powder, black powder then rifle powder using 10k volts. even though it's a very small amount you can still see the different burn rates for each type.

Bonus points for guessing the show playing in the background.

Be sure to stand back a bit if you do that demo with black powder!
Standing over BP and lighting it would eliminate the need to shave for a day or so.
Don

Safety first!

What that video didn't show was that I progressively worked up to a large amount.

If you decide to try black powder don't go by the Bugs bunny cartoons where they make a trail of powder like a fuse. My buddy had about 2lbs of Goex to get rid of, one night on the beach for the amusement of all he poured 1 1/2 pounds in a large pile on some newspaper then made a trail of powder about 5' long. He took a 5' long stick lit on fire and touched the powder trial and woosh the trail the powder everything went up in milliseconds, the cloud of smoke was enormous for a brief moment I was sure he was vaporized. Buddy came through alright the hair one arm was a little singed we had a lot more respect for BP after that and less faith in Bugs bunny.
