burris black diamond

I have a 8x32x50 black diamond. I would not recomend this scope for long range or anthying past 200. The focus adjustment has to be reset after every shot and past 300 meter's scope will not focus clearly on small targets. On the positive side it seems to track well and I like the 1/8 moa. clicks. I did send it back to Burris for their free repair. It cost $45.00 to send it to them and had to pay a $45.00 brokerage fee when it came back with the same issues it was sent for repairs for. Spend the small bit extra for a Leopould!

Why didn;t you send it to the Canadian importer for repair/replacement?

On the model I have seen I found the eye piece to be loose. Does your eyepiece wobble if firmly gripped and wiggled?

Also at 32x the image is cloudy. The one I have seen sounds like it has problems 8-32x50

Its interesting to see the 6mmBR mentions a shorter version. Anyone know what the long and now short version lengths are?

With any product you have a hit and miss potential. No company is perfect.

When you spend $3000+ you would hope you won't be disappointed but it is possible to be disappointed - pending what you are looking for. For example the latest S&B 5-25x56 scope did not impress me. My preliminary optical comparision against a Nightforce proved to me that optically the Nightforce I tested yielded no difference on target image.

As always, it is best to read about a product and ideally view it before taking the plunge......

The new style is a side focus model. The old model had an adjustable objective, and I "think" was only a 1" tube. I do not know how long the old model was, but the specs for the new version are on the Burris site,
Cdog.

I had the AO black diamond in 6-24. The optics were quite nice with a very very slight 'Euro' yellow tint - made viewing mirage amazingly good. Target image was crisp despite seeing the mirage. Really weird and you need to see it to understand. Would make a great target optics.

The reticle was a bit heavy but mildots can seem that way. target turrents worked well.

Can't remember why I sent it back to Burris but it needed repairs. There is no Canada repair location for any Burris products - Colorado only.

What I hated about this scope was the turrent markings were 7 1/2 mins per revolution. Went from 0 to 7.5, then 4 clicks (1/8min clicks) back to 0 which now represents 8.

So each revolution, the markings have a different value! Not sure which rocket scientist thought this up but renders the turrents useless for in the field elevation changes.

I have not seen the newer side focus so can't say if saddled with the same silliness.

Overall, the optics were not bad at all and the scope did hold and track well (although you didn't always know where you were). Big and heavy but did have quite a bit of elevation in a 30mm tube.

I would never get another if they kept that stupid markings system but it is more scope for the money then many Leupolds.
