Im looking for new scope and im wondering how they compare to each other. Burris FFII 3-9 x40 and Vortex Diamontback 4-12x40. The price is almost the same. Maybe someone have any experience with them.

I like the Burris FFII in 3-9x40 w. ballistic plex. I have two of them, but I've sent one back to Burris because I believe my M14 rattled it to death. They are a good scope for the money, the ballistic plex is usefull, and the adjustments are crisp and well marked. The only thing odd about the scope is that the ocular turns with the magnification adjustment, which is to eliminate one seal, but it also means no Pop up scope covers, because the rear one would be rotating.

I haven't tried the Vortex but I do have a Burris Fullfield II 3-9x with ballistic plex. The glass is very good and bright. The adjustments are good and you get a positive click. They are excellent for a simple scope without an Adjustable objective. Currently one of the best buys if you find them on sale (Can be found for just over $200 if you really look).

I did an informal night test with 4 scopes. All of them worked fairly well. The contenders were a Night Force 12-42x NXS, Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20x my Burris Fullfield II 3-9x and a Falcon 4-14x 44mm. All four scopes worked well in low light. The NF and Conquest were very close. I couldn't determine a winner. The Burris was also right in there. The Falcon was last place but.... it was still pretty good. The only criteria was brightness. I didn't test resolution etc. Just a fun informal check.

I own both of the scopes in question. I like the Burris BP reticule for all-purpose hunting, since it is bold enough to be used in waning light or in the bush. I like the Vortex BDC reticule for long-range work, since it uses dots instead of hash lines (which Burris uses), which makes the reticule more fine and useful for long-range work.

Both scopes are equally bright and have great resolution. The adjustments are slightly more positive on the Vortex, but they are accurate on both scopes.

The Burris is lighter in weight, if that matters to you.

The Vortex has the best warranty in the business, and their CS rivals that of Leupold. That said, I've also sent a scope back to Burris, and their service and warranty was also fantastic, but their written guarantee is no-where near as good as Vortex'.

I have owned both scopes in question, I still own the Vortexx Diamondback 4-12X40, that should tell you which one I prefer. But those who know me know that I am 100% Vortex now. I have had great luck with their products and their customer service. The Burris is a good product too, and I feel that you would be happy with either one, I guess it comes down to your preference.

I have them both...well my Burris is the 4.5 - 14x42 but same s**t...You will not notice a lick of difference between the two scopes for 95% of your shooting, but in low light, heavy rain or other times with visual interference the Burris absolutely blows the Diamondback away. Downside is the ocular eyepiece moves when you change the power settings as it's all one piece, which is a PITA if you use scope caps, but for the quality difference in th glass you can live with it. As soon as this hunting season is over I'm looking for a twin to the Burris I have on my .300 WM for my .270 to replace the diamondback 4x12 I have on there, it's really that good. Only problem is they will both be on Tikka T3 lite SS and I can just see me going hunting with the wrong mag and bullets, but it's a risk I'm going to have to run. For my money I would go Burris, and they also have a no bs forever warranty on their scopes.
