Burst mode firing

Ok to be fair, you can get good at bump firing.

You can google for this and it simulates fully automatic fire with a semi auto. It's not illegal unless because you're not using a device to make the thing fire like mad. Modifying your gun to slam fire will get your PAL taken away. Using rubber bands or shoelaces is considered modifying so stick to bump firing.

You guys are really coming down hard on this guy, it was a straight forward question and it only required a simple answer.

When I did my course the instructor spoke very little about fully automatic firearms and the laws relating to them.

Ease up

Ditto. It never ceases to amaze me how the same group of people who advocate bringing new members into the sport will waste no more than 3 nanoseconds to publicly humiliate a newb.

Reminds me of a group of normally docile dogs who go nuts after one of the pack starts attacking a stray squirrel, rabbit or small child....:(

And I agree with the statement that most instructors don't mention anything about full-auto. As well, some instructors are professionally-trained idiots with certificates attesting to that fact. How'n hell they were accepted as instructors is beyond the realm of my comprehension.

I think it was an interesting question, and I learned a few things from the folks who made the effort to reply in a civil fashion.

Never heard of "bump" firing, sure hate to learn about it accidently!

I have a fair bit of experience with 2 and 3 round burst MP-5's ( prohibited weapon ).
Much prefer the 2 round option. Third round seems to stray a few inches on the 3 round.

Ask away Alice.

I am a newbie, and I am wondering what is the most powerful type of guns or models that we can legally obtain in Canada. I heard that ak-47 is banned? Is .50bmg also banned in Canada.
Then what type of "powerful"guns are we allow to have
Are we allow to have mg42

This guy is good. And he hasn't even gotten around to bullpups yet.

There is a difference between being a newb and being completely ignorant of the firearms laws and restrictions. I myself am somewhat new to the shooting sports (have some experience from cadets and my youth, but thats it).

My instructor was extremely safety oriented and very thorough. However, I took it on myself to purchase CFSC/CRFSC and read them front to back before I even thought about asking questions or taking my tests.

There is nothing wrong with asking questions, but I'd say about 95% of the information is available if you just take the time to read. And as someone pointed out, this kid has asked some pretty wild stuff, like about AP rounds, fully automatic weapons and etc.

I have a reputation for thinking I know it all, but now that I'm becoming more and more involved with firearms, I've learned that it's better to be humble and think twice, ask once...and read read read.

As long as you're honest and have shown that you've taken at least some effort to inform yourself, people are happy to help and are quite friendly.

Just my $.02

There are three reasons for burst firing as oppossed to full auto: Muzzle control, barrel cooling and ammunition conservation. Some firearms have this mechanism desisned into the trigger group. Most auto firing weapons you have to get a feel for the trigger to fire about three to four shots and release the trigger.
There is a product that you can mount on the trigger guard with a ratchet like activator that will simulate auto firing. Not a good idea because it can cause a weapon to be fired out of battery.(the bolt doesn't lock up) On an weapon that fires with an open bolt this isn't an issue.(the round normally ignites as its being chambered API)
I'm not sure if these things can be bought anymore and with our lovely and retarded five round mag cap. This is pretty well pointless. Unless you have a Garand (8 rds)..and have fun working the trigger on that.
