Does anyone know of anyone who has their wilderness atc that is not a prospector, forestry worker, or trapper? What arguement did they make? How do I go about gettting an atc for bear protection while bow hunting?
Thanks

You don't.

Or if you prefer a more positive answer: "Good luck with that."

It's difficult enough when your profession requires you to be out in the sticks. Well, not difficult, but they make damned sure it's all about work. Speaking of which, mine is coming up for renewal soon; I wonder if I'm going to have trouble getting my pistol listed again.

The bottom line is that you must own or be employed by a company that primarily works in bear habitat, and that you duties prevent you from carrying a long gun for protection. If you are an employee the company must sign off on the permit.

I got mine because I own a blasting company. Pounder got his because he owns a tour company and works on company vehicles on his property well outside of town, although many guides in Manitoba are rejected. I've known helicopter pilots who got theirs because they were working on the polar bear program and aided in the collecting of data from drugged bears. At least one civilian Natural Resources employee has his due to his long term involvement with polar bear work.

My ATC also states that it could be issued to full time trappers for humanly dispatching animals in traps.

Check the trapper angle out, because it used to be .22 pistols for humanely dispatching trapped animals and for wilderness protection you had to have .357 mag or bigger. So a trapper could not get a permit for larger calibers because it would damage the pelt and he was not getting it for the purpose of dispatching trapped animals. Check it out before applying for the trapper ATC.

He has his .357 mag on his SASK ATC for trapping....DONE!
