so finally got out to do a scout of the area where I will be hunting the end of the month.

First camp site that I wanted to use was vacant but a mess, bones and hides all over the place, broken lawn chairs and some idiot had shot their little house dog and left it there. Lazy slobs, site was near the main road, the other sites that I was looking at were further in and harder to get to and were good. The second site in was about 1 Km further down the road and had a broken lawn chair and a little bit of a mess but not bad. All the other sites were good.

But what makes a person think its ok to leave all the hides and bones scattered around their camp site. I counted 20 deer legs, several hides, a moose calf hide and legs and 2 or 3 deer rib cages. But the small dog just makes me shake my head, and by small I'm guessing about a 12 lb lap dog.

slobs like that just turn me off hunting the entire area.

Yup I agree! Found a tanning bed in one of my spots I frequent. I just don't get it, what is so difficult about cleaning up after yourself!

Unfortunately they are nation wide. I can't recall the last time I went for a scout / hunt and didn't encounter litter / garbage in one form or another!

I once found a fridge and freezer 50 km up a rough logging road... 150 km from the nearest town... now THAT is a person determined to be a slob.

Probably spent more on gas than the dump would have cost too. Hell there is usually lots of metal in those, they could be recycled for free or even make a few bucks! Some people...

As for all the animal waste, sounds like a lot to be in one place. Poachers perhaps? Is there an open season on moose near there? As for the kick-me dog, i hope the dog was sick or injured, to just shoot a dog for no reason is disgusting.

Last place I was at in north central BC guys were shooting in the BCFS camp site just around the corner and out of our sight all day, .22s, shotguns and rifles.

I talked to guy a who hunts there regularly. Moose usually come down to the lake shore 100 yards from that campsite and at another spot 800 yards away when it is quiet. Guess what? There were no moose there on the beach at any time inthe 10 days I was there.

Conservation Officers showed up 'cause someone reported them and they got fined.

And at the other end of the site I was at, there was a whole snowshoe hare carcass someone shot and left, a moose hide, legs and grouse carcasses.

It's sad. I find coffee cups, water bottles, and other fast food wrappers most places I used to frequent in the past now. I've even come across fire pits that still has smoking embers with melted cans and beer bottles. Only found bones and hide a few times.

The most i leave behind is lost shells, watermelon, or other seasonal target guts. When I smoked I even brought a tin to put my butts into rather than tossing them into the bush after extinguishing them. If I walk my dog in the bush I don't pick up after him but I do in the city parks. Others seem to pick up after their dogs but then toss the bag beside the trails or tie them to branches? Do they think someone is going to come by and collect it? Some small trees or bushes looked like sick X-mas trees they have so many tied on.

If I shoot or stay at a site I usually clean it up better than I found it but over the years I stopped cleaning up all the garbage left by others. Not enough time and it never stops now. The last time we did a full cleaning it took us hours and we filled two garbage bags. Kind of ruins the trip. I guess 2-3 hours north isn't far enough any more.

This is the older generation ruining our environment and planet. When they die off we'll clean up after them. Might take another 20 years or so for them to be purged...

What makes you so sure your generation is so pristine clean?

I have hunted most of my life, we'll all of it actually, from Quebec to BC, and 90% of the time, the messes are left behind by middle aged working class fellows that find hunting camp a place to drink, act silly and shoot things.

I have actually hauled enough garbage from sites that left my wife sitting atop a massive pile of full garbage bags in a 16' boat. I not only clean up after myself, but every other slob that was there before me. It bothers me I guess that people leave trash behind, but I am quite proud of the fact that I do more than most to clean it up.

We are better educated and push for laws to protect our environment.

Yep must be why I see all the old guys shooting up TV's, fridges, etc etc and leaving them behind NOT
Did anyone ever tell you school doesn't make one smart
Wait now I am wrong that education and push for laws must be why you still have a LGR and us old stupid farts don't

How is that working for you

Cheers

We took photos and sent them to mnr with GPS coordinates to a camp site that a of a large group of A-holes camp at every year.
They got a visit and still do. They had to clean it up. I went up last week and it was much better than before. Almost respectable.
We clean up after ourselves in the spot we use and most others that use it are also pretty good. But we cleaned many beer bottle lids 1 beer can and a couple small propane cylinders last week that were left behind.
What really piss's me off locally is the garbage left behind by fishermen near local rivers and streams.
It's no wonder why farmers won't let you access there land to go fishing.
It's bloody unreal what these idiots drop in a day compared to hunters in a week.
