Hey guys~my reloading experience is limited to a few calibers (.204 ruger, .223 Rem, .243 Win) and in all cases, I use(d) RCBS FL sizing dies only. Never neck-sizing dies either. (though I tried once) However, I've never prepped brass any smaller than .223, nor have I even held a Hornet case of any kind. In reading reports about 17 Hornet being a "fussy" thing to load, I assumed that had only to do with the small bullet size. Reading further about dies, Redding "Bushing" dies kept popping up in discussions about 17H, the risk of crushing cases if you don't use them, etc. etc. Full disclosure~I knew next to nothing about bushing dies before reading about loading 17H, and while I grasp the reasoning behind them, I don't fully grasp the mechanics of how you set-up the dies themselves...what to look for when sizing brass, etc.
There are probably a dozen reasons for me NOT to buy a rifle in 17 Hornet, but if I think if I can get a sense of what I'm up against in loading for it, I make make the poor choice of buying a rifle in this caliber.
The kids don't need Christmas presents.
If anyone has a link, some photos, some explanation they feel inclined to share with this reloading newbie (about 5 years of keeping reloading simple)...PLEASE don't hesitate to share. Don't hesitate to try and talk me out of 17 Hornet either.
