Bushingless 1911's...do they exist?

I could have sworn noticing some one making 1911' without a bushing w// a crowned barrel. Or did they simply make a flush cut barrel and coat the bushing and tip of the recoil rod black as they do with the new Alchemy Quantico 1911's (an option). Does any one know if there are 1911's without a bushing. I thought I came across one with a special "cone barrel" so that a bushing wouldn't be needed.

I was under the assumption all bull barreled 1911's were technically "bushingless"

I just took at look at the Nighthawk The Bull. Uses a bull barrel. They did the same as Alchemy with their new Quantico guns. They made the barrel flush cut with the bushing. Coated the gushing in black. So there is still a bushing at leas between the bottom of the barrel and the top of the recoil rod.

I forget which other guns are using bull barrels...Possibly the Wilson Experior guns?? Shrug..

Perhaps it's not viable to have a 1911 with no bushing at all...Again...I thought I heard about some 1911 that used a "cone tip barrel so that a bushing wouldn't be needed. when I remember who this is if it is for real and not just a bushing coated in black..I'll update...

Very ###y looking gun "Harry" :) But your gun does actually have a "semi-bushing" around the barrel. The recoil rod happens to be flush

I did just check a brand called Bul Armory...their 1911's ARE "bushingless". Barrel protrudes. If only they were "flush cut" as well so that the "front face" of the gun was totally flat. Perhaps that also isn't a good idea. Why no one's done it...it seems.

That article...will have to try to find it. Gun magazines are hard to find for some reason. Used to be on every news stand. :)

STI’s formerly high accuracy & precision 1911 TargetMaster has no barrel bushing. The bull barrel mates up with the slide in battery, performing a solid & repeatable lockup.
Unfortunately the TargetMaster & the RangeMaster are no longer in STI’s compliment of autos, as they have moved upscale into their new name Staccato.
Bushing-less barrels are not new at all....

I have one, was a SAM 45, about 3 1/2" chief commander, I think, my mind has gone blank,
There is not room for a bushing, so they run a flared bull barrel , no bushing.
I can see wearing the slide if one shot thousands of rounds, but they are not a gun most would shoot a great deal. Kind of like a snub nose 44.
You had to run full loads in it , my target loads would not cycle the gun. SAM is O.K., but it an't no Les Baer.

Colt also produced their Delta Elites with bushingless barrels for a time. They changed back to a bushing set-up around 2008.
They stated they had unacceptable accuracy issues with the bull barrel setup.

I think the bushing gives added buffer between slide and barrel and two points of contact. Also, a bull barrels set up adds a bit more weight to the gun and were more often used on shorter 1911s than government models.

1911s can be modified to a bull barrel configuration as well.
It takes someone with a good understanding of 1911s timing to make it work.

the Ed Brown EVO series 1911's... That's what I meant by bushingless. There's no "semi-bushing" you see around the end of the barrel on some 1911's There's just a flat surface on the front of the guns. (see the photos on the website...I guess I haven't been a member long enough to post jpg's)

I mean I can see why most prefer to use a bushing. But if it can be done as with the Ed Brown EVO Series guns, STI Spartan (I haven't seen any photos)...Most of the new Stacatoo2011 guns are totally "flush faced" (nothing on the face of the gun) why not make it an option on more 1911's? Small thing. More for looks than anything else at the end of the day.

Most of the time at best we see "flush cuts/recessed crowns". But there's still a bushing. In the case of the new Alchemy Quantico 1911's you have the option to have the bushing coated black So you only see the barrel rim

For what it is worth in this conversation, that is actually not a bushing at the front of The Bull. it is a very nicely blended guide rod plug, but it is not a bushing. Bull barreled 1911s don't use or require a bushing.

Not sure if this helps or even what it is that you are really asking for, but if you can clarify what it is that you really are trying to sort out, I'm sure we can help!
