Bushmaster ACR - Any Word on 18.5" Barrel?

I seriously don`t know of any other industry where a product is marketed in this way......pushing out the delivery dates for years, communicating to customers in this manner. Its in their freakin product catalog and website everywhere. My gun has multicaliber printed on it!

The only group that comes close is there`s a bunch of crazies about 100 km away from where I live.......anyways.....they have been selling people on the idea that space aliens will be landing every year and to be ready for it and to give them money so they can prepare for their landing. So, far I have not met any space aliens. Maybe they are among us.....actually Justin Bieber could be one. But I digress.....

As for Bushmaster......They should market a conversion to the bolt block that is stamped "single caliber". It could sell as an upgrade.....At least it would be a step in better managing customer expectations.....

My 2 cents....

I wish they would give us the Remington acr which ditches the quick barrel change system which significantly reduces the weight of the rifle. Then I would buy one

Can the quick change mechanism be removed or is it integral into the barrel retention design?

I'm wondering if a rebarreled ACR could do away with the quick change system?

Has anyone aproached dlask about a 300 barrel kit?

I don't think so, they would need to do some R&D and also machine and supply an op rod and op rod guide with the kit which would drive up the price.
The ACR uses a mid length gas system and the 300BLK works best with a pistol length gas system, when I built my 300BLK barrel I had it done with a carbine length gas port and shortened my op rod. I would have gone shorter but the design of the ACR doesn't really allow you to do it.
I have my rifle cycling everything from 110gr-208gr and it can shoot 155gr A-max over A1680 into groups less than an inch at 100yds.

If anyone wants help putting together a 300BLK kit let me know.

- I don't want to hear any whining about price, it costs what it costs and if you don't want to spend the money don't waste my time.
You are looking at between $500 and $1000 depending how much of your gas system from your 223 barrel you're willing to sacrifice and what barrel blanks are available.

- I don't want to hear that you want to save your gas system and keep it on your 16 inch barrel so you can swap it back in at the range after you convert to non restricted with the 300BLK conversion since that would be illegal. Once your rifle is non restricted putting the restricted length barrel back in is creating an unregistered restricted firearm which will land you in some serious trouble if you get caught and bring unwanted legal attention to the ACR platform potentially ruining it for the rest of us.

If you don't care about making your rifle non restricted and just want a 300BLK conversion I can help there as well and the cost will be a little lower.

To be clear, I am not selling anything and this is not a business I'm involved in, I simply have done this conversion myself and am willing to help others build one, the guy who made my barrel for me will build more if I ask him and it'll cost you whatever he charges for the barrel blank and to do the machining.
The ACR uses the same barrel as an AR so even a straight up 223 AR barrel bought off the shelf with a midlength gas system and .75 inch saddle will drop right in if you have a notch machined into it for the op rod guide.

Wow. That's great CR5! Does your modified rifle weigh less than stock? If so, how much less than stock? Thanks.

If considering a conversion, be honest with yourself on how much leg work you are willing to do yourself before buying someones "kit". I wanted a rifle that worked 100% and was accurate for the start so had a reputable shop do the work. I have had enough rifles over the years to know I do not want a rifle that needs bugs worked out when the goal is to take it hunting, 100% reliability is a must. If it were just a range toy then I could put up with some tweaking but it would have to work 100% after or it would get sold at a loss.

mine is 8.3lbs with empty mag but is a 450, someone not too long ago posted their NR converted ACR in 223 was half a pound more. I had no oppertunity to weigh mine in factory stock configuration.

My ACR with non restricted 300BLK barrel, the magpul flip up sights, and magpul vertical grip weighs 8.7 pounds with no mag according to my digital luggage scale.

There are pics of it in the ACR info and media thread which is probably a few pages back now. Feel free to give it a bump when you find it.
