Bushmaster ACR reclassification

You guys may also want to check forum rules on the topic.

The following topics will not be tolerated. Violation will result in immediate and permanent suspension. Some quasi legal/ grey/downright illegal examples that are specifically not tolerated are:

#5 Swapping non-restricted barrel for restricted barrel at gun range.

Because in a confiscation scenario, they are going to show up at your dwelling with a list of all the firearms registered to you, failure to produce any of them will land you in jail.

That was a hypothetical scenario .... censored.....

Speeding over speed limit? Done daily by millions with much higher casualty count? Just fine, get off with a fine mister.

Have none of you seriously never been stopped and had your firearms checked when hunting or traveling to and from?, never seen police set up a checkpoint by a gun range?, never had the chief firearms officer for your province come to your home? I guess I am the only one with how loose everyone else is with clear cut regulations.

A second ago you were comparing a speeding ticket to not being able to provide a restricted firearms registered to your name, those are not the same, and you would not be issued a ticket. I fail to see how your kids going to a foster home is relevant to your missing registered restricted rifle. I’m sure your kids would miss you equally if you were locked away for a few years.

It was just me asking stupid hypothetical question the person who clearly said it was illegal. End of discussion really.

If you want a non restricted rifle buy a non restricted rifle.
If you want a restricted length rifle buy a restricted rifle.

The only way to legally have those two rifles be one rifle is such a pain in the ass to do legally it is not worth it. Every time you call to have it made non restricted again you are looking at an approximate 3 month wait for the firearms center to do the paperwork.

These are not the days to be pushing the limits of the current laws. All they do is make more laws to close more doors. Look at the Beowulf mags for an example. If guys hadn't been being idiots doing mag dumps at the sandpit 1 Km from town they would still be legal. The only reason they got banned is because guys insist on pushing the limits till the gov or RCMP are forced to do something about it. Yes, I know the Beowulf mag is not legally prohibited and that it's only a notice but do you want to be the guy who spends months in court arguing it? Again, you may get off but no one is paying you back the thousands of dollars your lawyer cost or compensating you for your time off work.

In case some of you people haven't noticed they are trying to take away our firearms and every time someone breaks the law with one, either while committing a crime of violence or simply by ignoring the laws and gets caught it gives them (gov/anti's) more ammunition and reason to take more from us.

Just because you don't want to spend the money to buy more than one rifle does not give you the right to break the law so you can have what you want. Pleading that you didn't know is not going to cut you any slack, especially if they look at your posts on this site and see that you knew it was illegal.
Just don't do it and don't listen to the guys talking theoretically out their ass about how it's legal because it fits the description of a non restricted or that the 30 day window buys you some free pass.

You don't need to understand the laws, you just need to follow them.

This thread can be closed any time, the OP's original question has been answered and now we're just going in circles again about something that was never asked about doing something illegal.

Very important distinction. Especially to those who died.

I and my wife were nearly killed on June 5th by a truck running red light at 120+km/h. Tell that to my kids on their way to foster home.

You should have chased that truck down and called the police with his license plate number and had him charged with dangerous driving.

No one is ####ing missing anything. I asked stupid ####ign hypothetical question about ragne use, not using or driving around with unregistered R. I don't even own ####ing ACR to begin with.

I’m a firearms verifier, and I’ve also had a meeting with my local CFO about my buying habits. No inspection, meeting was at a nearby police station. If anything, I gained another contact.

My friend bought an R acr, had it converted and de-registered. He phoned in to make sure they couldn’t find anything which IIRC they could not. Makes me wonder though, if my friend will get a notice to surrender come 2020.

Other than in the event of a confiscation scenario, if you have a firearm registered to you and you can not produce it within the time frame the rcmp give you, there will be a problem.

Honestly? No.

have him sell it to someone else prior to C71 coming in.

Voila done.

Why would he get a notice?, once it was removed from the registry it could have been sold many times as a NR firearm.

The point I’m making is that it’ll be interesting to see if it’s truly removed.

Even if they have record of it it is meaningless to the current status of the firearm, so sending a letter to whoever had it before it was removed from the restricted database will go nowhere
