Bushmaster ACRs recalled

lol. but would still suck get to shoot a whole 5 round...

when did they make the law , that u cant have more then 5 rounds in a semi rifle ?
 
Is it firing unexpectedly with one pull and release of the trigger causing multiple shots or is it firing multiple shots when the trigger is continuously held, as in controlled bursts?
 
The problem is no matter what position the selector is in it will fire a burst with some ammunition due to the inertia and the firing pin, the same issue as popped up with the Tavor and with the first 200 of original FS2000. The problem will require a fix to the firing pin and firing pin spring area like the others.
 
So the ACR's are functioning fine, as designed, when using issue 5.56mm Military Ammo. Just like the Tavor, no problems with the gun, it's the civilian .223 ammo with maybe a bit softer primers.

I can understand the tavors having slamfire issues considering there are likely only a few hundred of them in civilian hands, and at the time the slamfires were noticed likely only a hundred of them used civi ammo.

The ACR on the other hand shouldn't have this issue considering Bushmaster and Remington have a ton of civi sales experience.
 
Remington and Bushmaster did not exactly have the experience of "designing" more complex semi-automatic military firearms. Bushmaster is more of a manufacturing specialist, but not designing. They must have hired some new people(or headhunt a few from other companies) or used a few consultants to help them in the ACR.

The original calculation might have be done by magpul and they have not been touched. They just focused on the manufacturing aspect. You know, it has been working, everyone expects the other has done due diligence....but the fact everyone just harsh it out until issue pops out. Then everyone is oh well, I do not know you have not looked deeper into this area.
 
The point is both have extensive civilian market experience. Its hard to know what they were doing on the R&D side. They certainly made a lot of changes to the Magpul design that don't seem to make a lot of sense on the surface. I can see them taking as long as they did to release the rifle but you'd expect that they would have used that time to ensure they did it right. So much bad press over things like weight, lack of key features that were part of the original design and now a safety recall. If you follow the threads on other boards about this, there were owners contacting bushmaster from the get go with this issue that were ignored. They ignored their customers until one of them was accidentally shot. Its too bad because people were very interested in the ACR early on.
 
I don't think the internals are all newly designed, the BCG is an established and proven design as well as the trigger group. It's the overall packaging that is newly designed. This is likely an ammo specific malfunction.
 
The bolt is a slightly different design when compared to a standard AR15 style the tail end is shorter also the cam pin is different, extractor and ejector are the same and the firing pin is different in a few areas. There are some engineering changes but overall their goal seemed to be to use as much of the AR 15 type components as possible to reduce tooling costs.
 
The ACR is too muzzle heavy, at least the one I handled seemed to be with the rail forend. I thought the whole point of it was that Magpul makes good injection-molded stuff but the ACR is a very heavy gun.
