Bushmaster Carbon 15 in 9 mm - loading problems

By the way, I just measured a modded and unmodded follower. For 10.5-10.75 rounds, take exactly 0.100" off the bottom of the follower and no more. Do NOT take a full 1/8" or it's an 11 round mag ;)

Got the modified sample mag from my gunsmith yesterday. Didn't tell me what he did, the only thing he said was that he filed the ends of the follower legs (the follower looks like a stool and has two legs that slide against the front and back of the mag), don't know how much he filed off, and that he played around with the mag lips.

I tried it at home, loaded 10 rounds (still, they go in pretty tight, but there's approximately 1/2 round space left with 10 rounds all pushed in), put it in the rifle, released the bolt. The first round got stripped with no problem - this is an improvement already. However, with the round chambered, you have to really slam on the bottom of the 10 rds loaded mag to get it in and locked. This is also an improvement, as before you couldn't lock the mag in no matter how hard you pushed. Looks like at least one coil of the follower spring has to be cut out to reduce the spring pressure. Will try this mag's function in various scenarios at the range on Monday and give a full report. There's hope, though, at least now I know these mags can be worked on.

Thanks everybody for the input.
