Talked to the distributor in Canada already and he claims the price is just unreal, expect to pay about $1900 for the upper at the current price they are charging, Bushmaster needs a reality check on pricing.

What's the Leitner-Wise gas piston upper cost? If it's 20-40% less, bushmaster might as well s**t can their project right now.

They are not cheap and would cost the same money as the Bushmaster.

yup its ridiculous the gas piston fad is all ready starting to fade in the US as end-user realise that the direct gas has its avantage...

I still dont get why someone just doesnt make an AK47 direct piston for the AR instead of these complicated designs.

the op-rod and piston are too big and heavy. alot of reciprocating mass thats way above the centerline of the bore. this will lead to alot of muzzle rise.

Conversion units available
See Ares
http://www.aresdefense.com/product.html
I see an advantage as the units mass seems low,Action internals trigger etc stays cleaner and cooler.
POF's units are hard chromed and have good reviews.
Also
ZM weapons units eliminates rear buffer and spring system like XCR.

Heck if they didn't come up with something "new"(or old labeled as new and improved) each year we'd have nothing to spend our money on.

Are there any Canadian Dealers stocking the Ares GSR-35 conversion? For $395 US, plus you get to make use of your original upper, it sure seems like a good deal.

Interesting observation is that the axis of the piston is offset from the connection to the FSB. imaginging beating a nail on the side with a hammer.
The piston is being displaced by gas, it's not being hit by a hammer. If the gas has nowhere else to go, what can go wrong?

Granted, I do agree that it'd be nice to hear/read some end-user feedback.

Bushmasters kit is POF's...
same with the one DSA is selling.

ARES is interesting -- but does not fit rails - without works -- or the SIR albatros

On the Ares website, they claim that you can buy two versions of their specialized handguards. A regular plain style, and another with rails at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o'clock. They say that the railed handguards they're selling are produced by KAC.
