Muzzle brake or does it have the thread cap? It is worth getting the unique wrench that K&M sells to remove the thread cap if it hasn't already been removed. You might be able to use a m14 castle nut wrench, or even an AR castle nut wrench but it might not be as neat.

I don't actually know. None of the pics show the muzzle.

You own one of these guys, correct? What's your overall opinion of what Upgrades I should definitely get?

I'm definitely getting the Full Mod Kit #1-2 (top and bottom rails, charging handle, 2 rows of small slots and your choice of color (Brownells ALUMA-HYDE® II) and the trigger device, and am thinking of getting the cheek-rest and Magpul buttpad installed. Not sure waht else is recommended, beyond the wrench as you suggested.

I'm also exploring the possibility of having the slots conform to Magpul's new M-Lok system, but we'll see where that goes.

if K&M do trigger work you may want to have them do that also as my m17 trigger is very heavy, but its NIB and I have not played with it yet

Just get the wrench then if Ken says it has the thread cap, which is likely if gen 2. Any AR brake will fit the threads underneath.

Mods are personal, but do get the trigger upgrade and skeletonized trigger set. Very worth it. I have the following...

4-1 kit with front charging handle
Added no drill top rail
Brass deflector
Trigger assembly black

I went and upgraded to the no drill rail as I liked the look better. If you don't mind the valley running down the middle of the rail, the standard rail will do.

Actually, 21.5 barrel as said above. The overall length is 30 inches though. So if you got a 18.5 inch barrel, the overall length would be 27 inches.

For some reason I thought 20" inch. Regardless, well over the limit and NR. Even after the mods and import, it will be cheaper than a T97 with M14.ca's upgrades

My M17s is more accurate than my T97 with FTU. But both are awesome.

The Type 97 has a FTU with Bushnell TRS25. The M17s has a Sparc, a Magpul AFG2 and an A2 style flash hider not shown.

You're gonna love it. Ken does great work.

How much And where do I get one?

Gunbroker or similar online auction of retailer, then have if imported by say, I Run a Guns or Prophet River or whoever you chose should import it.

Generally bids are under 750 to 1500. Bide your time and get the one you want. If you want it fancied up, get a hold of K&M Arms in Arizona first and see what they will do for you. Buy, send to K&M for mods, then have K&M send it to your importer. Then wait.

If you can get the original M17s for under $1000, the mods will get you into the $1500 to $1800 range.

Ouch. I paid $612. Very few seem to be selling above $700.
