Consider the fact that a really excellent quality spotting scope can cost upwards of $2500. just for the body (Kowa), and a lens starts at $400... and you can judge how good your spotting scope from CT might be. At the low end, figure on spending around $400 for an entry level spotting scope with half way decent glass, and you may be able to resolve .22 bullet holes at 300 yards. No guarantee though. Also get the biggest objective lens model like 80mm or greater if you can. The 60mm objectives just end up with too narrow a field of view, and less light transmission as you dial up the magnification. Optics are one area where you really do get what you pay for, and the more you spend the better off you will be.
