Just bought a bushmaster xm 15 heavy barrel.
Anyone got any comments on these, good or bad.
It's my first AR, it comes with a solid, fixed stock that I would like to change to a adjustable, what's the cost of doing that? Best place to buy an adjustable stock?
Also, how much are quad rails for them?

Any advice is welcomed.
Thanks

Welcome.

Good choice. I have one and it was my first AR as well. Solid gun. Will do what you need to do.
I would do the stock and forgrip asap and then do some reading and check out what everyone else tricks theirs else with.

I didnt do much to mine. Left the internals stock but threw on some Magpul crap and a DD rail system.
Since moving on to other makes and models I couldnt bring myself to get rid of mine...solid choice.

I always thought the heavy barrelled Bushmasters were ridiculously over heavy. The Colt HBAR wasn't nearly the brick of steel the Bushmaster was. It became widely accepted belief that Bushmaster left them so heavy simply to save money on machining.

Bushmaster is a good entry into the AR world.
It should serve you well for range use.
Suggest looking at various pistol grips and stocks. There are so many better options out there than the ones that come stock on them. Check out Magpul, Hogue, Tangodown, VLTOR. Brownells has them and ships to Canada. Good pricing.
Dont worry about rails on the front. I run free float because there is no wobble and I run a VFG.

My Bushy has served me quite well. I haven't had a problem with "Big Bush"
There is no "best place" to buy your add-ons, look around, alot of the site sponsors carry great stuff. Half the fun is finding the $hit you want.

Sounds good, thanks for the advice. I pick it up on Monday and I'll try it out as it is then pick away at the mods.

Great since its your first AR. You have no idea what you like. Try it out and go from there. Try others at the range....it will save money buying stuff and then not liking it

I had one. The 16" heavy barrel. Served me well. Accurate and reliable. But yes the heavy barrel is indeed heavy. I had the one with the 1/9 5.56mm markings on the barrel. I was told Bushmaster got sold not after I got mine. not sure about the latest versions.

I recently came across a very good tool at Brownells. It is a list of dream guns - but it also gives you the skus of all the parts on each build. Simply scan for items that interest you and click on it.

I know it's provided me with hours of entertainment...
