Bushnell 3200 (whats the skinny)

Good scopes, the 3200s are every bit as clear as the Leopold VX 2 scopes and better than the VX 1s ( I own a couple of both types)

I have a a 3200 on my lightweight - under 7 1/2 pounds scoped - 338-06 and it has survived the recoil from that - although that rifle killed 2 sets of Parker Hale aluminum rings!

The downside is that while they seldom have problems you can expect a lengthy wait getting them back from the Bushnell warranty depot if something does break.

The new 3200's in 3-10 x 40 have 3.7 inches of eye relief. I think that would be generous enough. I beleive the rest of the 3200's are 3.3 or so.

I've owned both a 3200 and a FFII Burris

both good scopes

I would opt for a Leupold VXII on a 300 Ultra, for the extra eye relief.

Hi,

Have a Bushnell Elite 3200 3x10x40 on my .270 and a Elite 3200 3x9x50 on y 7MMRemMag, both are worth the money :) , to my opinion, and have no prob on the 7MMRM with eye relief but it does not kick as much as the 300UM.

Can't compare with Leupold, don't have any....but hear only good of them.

I just mounted a 3200 3-9 x 40 on my Tikka 695 in 300WM (sythetic / blued). I assume they give enough relief for this application? I haven't shot it, yet...:(

The scopes that I use on both of my 300ultramags have 3.5" of eye relief which works fine for me.If the 3x10x40 3200 does have 3.7" of eye relief as previously stated, you shouldn't have any problems.

Get the 3-10x40 3200 Elite, I bought one last year and as others said it has more eye relief than the other models. I've been really happy with mine on my 270win. Higginsons has them for $253.

*Make sure it'll fit because it is a "shortmag" scope and I believe it's a full inch shorter than the 3-9x model (mounting area) I don't know if it will mount on your 300RUM.

I have a 3200 3-9x50mm on my Tikka T3, .300 Win mag. Works well, shot two deer this year with it, no problems.

Speaking from experience with my 300 RUM...get a Leupold and don't look back! Its not the low end magnification eye relief you need to worry about as much as the top end magnification eye relief...thats the magic number. I've seen you shoot and I know your rifle...you enjoy target shooting that thing and when your hunched over it shooting from a bench .....well go for the most eye relief you can. Lets face it...RUM's are not considered a close range rifle and have considerable ability to reach out an touch past 400 yards...so why not a 4-12x40 A/O VXII??????????

The vxii 4x12x40 has 3.7" of eye relief at top magnification while the elite 3200 3x10x40 has 3.7" of eye relief. In other words, they are the same at the maximum magnification.

Sorry stubblejumper but there is a big difference between 10x power and 12x power! You wouldn't think its huge until you are shooting 400+ yards at targets or smaller than average deer size game. Lets compair apples to apples here...not apples to oranges. What is the eye relief of the leupold VX II 4-12x40 @ 10X??? Not to mention the range finding feature of the A/O and its ability to keep your picture paralax free out past 100 yards.

Not as much as you might think considering that the vxii 4x12x40 actually has a maximum magnification of 11.2 X.That is a whole 1.2 X difference.By the way,I use 3x10x42 scopes on both my 7mmstws and my 300ultramags and they have been plenty adequate for shots on pronghorn and coyotes out to 500 yards.I don't see an extra 1.2 X making a huge difference.

Not to mention the range finding feature of the A/O

Since the size of our big game animals varies so much from deer to moose to elk, this so called rangefinding feature isn't much better than a guess.I will use my leica 1200 to determine the actual distance.

I have had a Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9X40 and it was a pretty good scope for the cash. I now have a Burris FUll Field II 3-9X40 with the ballistic plex reticle and I definetly prefer the Burris. My scopes are not mounted onto high recoiling rifles though, so I can not comment on their performance in this area.
