I'm looking for some feedback on the 6-24x40 Bushnell 4200 Elite scope, with Mildot reticle. I plan on doing some target shooting up to 1000yrd. as well as some hunting at much closer distances. It will go on a Remington 700 Sendero in 7mm. Rem. mag. I would like to know if this scope will be able to adjust for elevation to 1000yrds? Also, could someone recommend rings and a mount?:)

I think you would need a tapered base for use. 20moa picatinny would be my guess.

We sell TPS , Warne (tactical) and Farrell rings/bases.

My recommendation would be to go with the TPS line. Rings range in price from $82 to $99 in 1" and bases steel 20moa $95. All plus gst.

I have yet to have one unhappy customer with the TPS line.

Regards,

Joe

The 7mm Mag will help but keep in mind the reticle will not be centered when you are shooting out there.

The rails offer many mounting options especially nice with a long scope. We also carry Farrell in 10moa and 15moa.... tapered bases.

This is from the Bushnell site

6-24x max range of adjust 26" @ 100yards

10x (no a/o - ) 100" basically 4x the range.

Look into buying the sloping base!

I have a few and love them. Just get some Burris Sig rings w/inserts. You need rings anyways and these are superb. Big bonus is they eliminate any scope marks as they keep the scope tube in perfect alignment.

You can shim the scope using the inserts so that your 100yd zero is at full down elevation. Having the reticle at full down in no ways hurts its performance or optics. Been using these scopes for years.

That way you have the full range of elevation adjustment and getting to 1000yds is no problem.

I use a 162gr Amax with my 7RM and if you want to use the mildots for setting up your short range zero, you can get this scope to work to a mile.

The optimal position (to minimize problems etc.) is reticle at center and many precision shooters go to great pains to make this happen. I'm afraid it isn't by coincidence.

I can see if you are shooting at one distance, sure why not center the reticle. You want to maximize the windage adjustment (amount and direction) as that is the knob that gets adjusted the most.

If you are shooting at multiple distances, in a tactical or hunting application, you are moving that reticle all over the place (windage and elevation) as you adjust for the target so a center reticle serves no benefit.

Also, some scopes do have problems with adjustments at either extreme of travel so work best when the reticle is near the mechanical center of the tube. The Elite 4200's don't have that problem.

I have this unit mounted on a 308 Remington 700 with a Near 25 MOA base. I cannot get it to zero at 300 yards or closer because the adjustment range isn't there. The scope itself is a great scope and I have a few of them for other rifles but I would be cautious for your application. Steve

Steve, I assume that you are shooting far more often then close. If your goal was to shoot close, remove that base and put on some Burris rings w/ inserts. Then you can zero for 100yds and use the full elevation range for further.

Of course, you could just use the first mil dot up for 100yds.

Bushnell Sight in

Thanks Jerry. I had a zero cant mount installed up until recently but was going to switch the scope from the Bushnell to a Nightforce so I switched the mount to a Near 25 MOA. Since I hadn't bought the Nightforce yet (Kamloops is coming next weekend) I tried the Bushnell but it wouldn't zero at 300 yards. I understand that the travel range for the Bushnells are limited but I don't know to what range.

Anyone looking for the alternative Burris system, we have the Burris rings and insert kits.

Sample price - $48 plus gst signature zee matte 1" align ki - $15.50

Certainly more flexible then the tactical tough lines!

Steve there is a remote possibility that Bushnell changed the elevation range but I don't think they did. I believe long range canuck has been able to shoot 1000 yds with this bushnell 6-24 in .223:eek: . Something is different. Maybe he has special bullets.;)

No special bullets, just a simple 6-24 X40 Bushnell elite 4200 with mil-dot scope, set up on leupold rings and bases, Rifle is a Savage model 12bvss in a John Plaster Choate stock put together for me by P&D enterprises, pictured below. Zero is 100 yrds. Dialed up had enough to get on paper and thats all there was to it. Now that you bring it up I wish I would have kept track of the MOA I came up, but Next time I'm out I will repeat it and record it for ya. The shots were done the same day as the ones my partner took the pictures through my Leupold scope that I had posted on this site. If it's a life altering event for ya I can have him call you to verify it Joe if you are doubting my word, Myself I don't realy care either way I shoot to satisfy myself. I didn't think it was that big of a deal or increadable set of shots. And was basically done for ####s and gigles since I tapped out my supply of .300win mag for my other rifle that day.

Actually if you realy want to be shocked you should hear what type of ammo I did it with......that will realy do it for ya.

Trust me... The scope will do 1000.

LRC - now thats funny......in a good sense of course...we wouldn't doubt your word or your experience. It would be interesting to see if the adjustment range has changed on newer models. Its been a while since I used one myself. Too darn long a scope for my liking.....
