i saw an add for a Bushnell Elite 6500 in 6.5-30x50mm. however, it doesn't have the target turrets. what to you guys think of this scope? is the magnification suitable for long range shooting? i assume the lack of target turrets disqualify it, so what's a similar or better scope in the same price range?

It does have target turrents. They are under the caps. The only thing that might be missing is hash marks on the inner sleeve. That can be added manually if not there.

I expect this to be an excellent LR scope.

They are pretty nice scopes... I seen them in person apparently they are made at the same factory as nightforce... I have an elite 4200 and a bunch of leupolds but I guess I have been brainwashed by leupold because I kind of look down on the Elite 4200 even though its probally as good... one big thing I dont like about the Elite 4200 8x32x40 I have is the thing is as long as telescope

My big complaint is - as with all of the Bushnell scopes - the availability of reticles. If they would embrace a 1/8MOA floating dot they would capture a significant chunk of business.

Moa

I asked a friend at my local range who had handled the 2.5-16 and the 4.5-30 and he mentioned that the 4.5-30 only has about 50 MOA available where the 2.5-16 has 80 MOA or more. I don't know if that helps you out any. Either scope with a canted base will get you out to 1000 yards.
