Bushnell 6500

i own 2, both 2.5-16x42, one with mildot and the other with fine multi-x, and am very happy with them:)

they've got lots of zoom range.

its very easy to obtain a sight picture with them, no shifting around to get it clear, even at 16x.

side focus parallax.

rain guard, which i hear is very good, but haven't put to the test yet.

lots of eye relief, and it seems to stay fairly contant thru the power range, unlike some scopes which seem to require an inch or more difference from low to high magnification.

lifetime warranty, and if you don't like them, the elites seem to have a 1 year over the counter return policy, but i haven't tried that so i'm sure if they give you your money back, or just get store credit, either way, better than nothing.

now for the bad:(

the one downside that a lot of guys have posted about in previous threads is the lack of hashmarks on the turret tube, so if you're shooting long range and cranking those turrets a lot, you may lose track of how many total revolutions you have made as there's no indications on the tube to show how many turns you've done.

now, i consider myself a casual shooter, and am not in the class of precision shooters, so i could be wrong in my description of this, and if so, could some one more versed in this please correct it.

overall, i would buy a third 6500 if i had a rifle for it:)

Fantastic scope, best scope for the price, IMO. Would have to spend a lot more to get a better scope. Throw in the trail cam and jacket offer they have on now, it's a no brainer. I've also been treated really well by Bushnell customer service too(no problems with the 6500, but an unrelated matter).

I had my 6500 on 16x while checking out a whitetail 600yds away...I ended up taking him at 125 yds. I forgot to turn the zoom down and found him very quickly at 16x at that close range. Zooming in on bucks at long ranges and being able to count the points is nice.

They gather light really well too.

Mine started out on a 22.250 for the summer, went from that to a .300 wm for the hunting season, just pulled it off and put it on a .243 for yotes. No problems so far. The lack of revolution counter marks does not come into play until around 800 yards for the faster calibres as it has 15 minutes of elevation per turn. If that issue became a deal-breaker...make your own marks. I would buy another.

240

I've used the 2.5-16 and still use a 4.5-30 and I believe they are the best scopes for the money, very clear,solid...the only knock i have is the weight, with the 30mm tube, they tend to be heavy, like other 30mm tube scopes. Sold the 2.5-16 to MacKillan of this site, and he likes it too(I think).

I put a 4.5 x 30 on my 257wby and im very happy with it, very clear, rain gaurd works good, can see great through it even if there is rain or snow on the lenses, all in all a really good buy.

Bushnell is aware of this ommision and apparently will be adding hash marks in a running change on these models. Phil.

Yeah, I guess so!

I wonder how many people overlooked these scopes for that reason.

I know I did.

6500

Thinking about a 6500 to replace the 3200 on my stainless 700 7m/m RM. Thinking of those big clear cuts and pipelines I've hunted lately in NW Alberta. Like the idea of side focus over A/O. Now should I go 40 or 50 mil objective? Oh and mil-dot or usual duplex? Wanting's half the fun!

You would be suprised how many people don't know about this or don't care. I believe many people buy scopes with target knobs for the LCF and never adjust them after initial sighting in. Phil.

I love ths scope. It is so easy to find game in short or long range. Ive used it for coyotes on a 7mm wby and in close with bush backdrop it is very nice. I bought it for a bush gun but it has lots of light gathering ability and can pick out game long range and short range. I have no idea why but I prefr Zeiss and Bushnell for this reason.

I bought the Bushnell Elite 6500 for a Savage 12 LRPV in 223. I got the 4.5-30 X 50 with a MillDot reticle. It works great if you don't want to focus on something at 500 yards with 30X magnification. At 30 adjust the side parallax nothing appears truly focused, dial it back to 20X and adjust parallax and it is in focus. You can mess with the side parallax all you want its still slightly out of focus at 30X.
I'm wishing I would have gone with the Leupold Mark2, but didn't.
They stopped the free trail cam and coat right before I bought mine!

I am thinking of ordering a 2.5-16x42 mil dot.

At what magnification are the dots one mili radian apart?

TIA

Scope is very nice but the one that i have the windage knob won't release to reset it to zero when you pull it out. The elevation knob works fine. I will have to send it away and test the warranty.
