I have a Bushnell ARC 1300 rangefinder which is primarily for firearms and archery with drop etc calculated and displayed in MOA

It seems to work perfectly out to around 800 yards but I cant get it to measure beyond that even though it is supposed to be good to 1300.

I started to think it was faulty but I've read up on it and it seems that at longer distances it needs something reflective to range off (so the laser reflects back and it can get a reading) so that may be my issue.

Can anyone verify if this is credible? I will be using it to range my target for some longe range shooting and will be using a steel target (which is supposed to be reflective) - has anyone else had any success with using a fussy rangefinder on steel at long distance?

Looks like reflection (or lack of) is most likely the issue - I ranged a house with large (reflective) windows today at 1250 yards.

Now to see if it works on my steel target at extended distances.......

The best I could do with mine was 1280 off a tin roof. I bought the nikon black 4k and have free hand ranged trees at 2300 and change a cow at 2100 and what ever else inside of 2500m I could see.

The bushnell benefits greatly from a steady position where it's not shaking like a camera tripod or a flat surface that doesnt wiggle. It helps range speed and distance immensely when its rock solid
