Trying to put together a nice inexpensive and accurate 22.thinking about pairing a marlin XT-22 bull barrel version with a banner 4-12x40 AO,question is,is this scope any good? I dont treat my rifles rough but I would like to know if it will actually shoot well and not shift POI and such?
opinions and personal knowledge appreciated.
Thanks,
Hunter.

The Banner 4-12 is a FANTASTIC scope for a rimfire. I've got several of them, and it's my go-to cheap scope for rimfires; it's head and tails beyond the various Tascos and BSA's in the same price range. It's not as good as the Weaver rimfire scope, or the Leupold, but both of those are several times the price of the Banner.

It's got an adjustable objective, which is a must-have for me. all the ones that I've had are acceptably clear and crisp, and tracks well, and holds zero. This is in comparison to other scopes in this approximate price range, of course; there are definitely better scope out there. But, in my opinion, the banner performs as well as a lot of scopes that are approximately twice the price. To get significantly better optical performance, you're into the $300+ range.

Thanks Prosper I really appreciate the input.looks like the local gun dealer will be getting a call to put a marlin XT-22vr and a Bushnell Banner on hold till I get there :D
Thanks,
Hunter.

the old adages, you get what you pay for and without good optics all a rifle is is an expensive club come to mind. it's up to you hunter, myself, whatever i spent on my rifle i would figure spending at least as much on my scope. prosper is right though banner would be a good choice for a cheap go to for a 22 plinker.

I used to own a Banner DD, one of the higher magnification/varmint ones. I'm no optics "snob", but it was a complete piece of crap. I've never looked through the Banner you're considering, so I can't comment on it. Recently, I looked at some Vortex Crossfire scopes and to me, they look WAY better than any Banner I've ever looked through. This is the one I'm considering for my .22WMR, same power range you're looking at;

Mine has been on my 10/22 and now on my Savage 22 BV. Excellent scope for the money, durable, repeatable adjustments. I don't think I've been happier with any scope that didn't cost at least twice as much.

Thats what I'm using on my 10/22. With all the money I have pumped into my 10/22 I have many times thought about buying a higher end scope but for that porpose it just works too well.
