Hello,

I am hesitating between a 6x18x50 Banner and a 5x15x40 Legend

There is not a big price difference between them, is the Legend really better ?

It is to be mounted on a M-305 and to be used for target, short and long range deer and moose hunting ?

Thanks

For an M305? That's a real beating you're going to be subjecting a real cheapie scope to, I wouldn't recommend either

The magnification you are looking at is a bit high for typical moose and deer hunting. A bushnell 3200 in 3-9x40 would probably be a better choice. Its $11 more than the Legend model you mentioned (Higginson's pricing).

Noted,

I already have an El-cheapo scope installed on it and it doesn't seems to move or loose it's glasses yet. What alternative would you suggest ?

Thanks

Because the M-305 is a semi automatic, it generates recoil in both direction and is notorious for eating scopes. I have a bushnell 3200 elite 10x mildot on mine, and it seems to be working; though I think I'd find the magnification a bit high if I were using it for hunting.

For a durable scope on a budget, I'd look at a 'prime' (non-zoom) scope, somewhere in the 3x to 6x range. The fixed zoom means less moving parts in the scope and a more durable construction as well as less cost. The Leupold FX series will run you $300-$400, and the weaver 'K' series runs ~$200

All,
When you are moving up to higher powered scopes it is best to stay away from cheap scopes altogether. Shortcomings at low power become painfully obvious at high power. A good fixed power will give better optics for the money, and a more durable scope at the same time. You can have it all with a variable, but it is going to cost you some money.

Ok experts , bench .22 is new to me so be gentle :p I have a 10-22 with GM bull barrel , Volq hammer and thumb hole stock. I want to scope it specifically for 100 yards . I have a Bushnell sportview which is not even close to where I want to be. What is the best 'crosshairs' type to use. With the present Bush, the hairs all but block out the bull at a 100yd target. Can you suggest the type of scope / power /reticle best suited for me. Budget will define so lets say less than $300.
many thanks
