Looking for some real life experiences with these.

Rifle: 308
Use Hunting out to 300 yards
What I need. A reasonably clear scope that I can dial in and leave. Has to reliably hold Zero and not change POI is I adjust the magnification.




I own a couple Nightforce products so I know what a good scope should do but i was looking for a low priced optic for a basic hunting rifle.

If you own nightforce scopes, your not going to like the banners at all. I had two Bushnell banners in my days, and they are both not around anymore. If its a budget thing, Id strongly recommend just putting that money away and slowly save up over 3-6months for something better. $500 can get you a pretty decent scope... $100 doesn't get you much.

Just my .02$, I hope you fond what you want.

I hear you and you may be right. I tried out my first Night force a couple years ago and it was an enlightening moment to say the least with regards scopes. For cheap scopes I had used Bushnell 3200 series and always had good luck with them but they are getting pretty scarce now on the EE. Just looking for an alternative low end scope.
 
I had a Banner on a 6.5x55 a few years ago and at 9X and 200 yds. it was just as solid as 3X and 100 yds. It held it's zero just like any scope should until I dropped it on some hard stuff and then it lost it's zero. I think it cost me postage and a $10.00 cheque to send it to Bushnell in Toronto someplace and a new one arrived in the mail.
 
When I was just starting to hunt deer, there were guys in my Dad's crew that used iron sights - scopes were kind of a "new" thing, at least out there in the bush. I know of many guys who regularly take their deer, moose and elk with a 1960's or 1970's fixed power made-in-El Paso Weaver, made-in-Japan Bushnell and some of the Tasco scopes. Tasco was actually incorporated in Florida, USA and did not own a factory, at all - would make various qualities of scopes, per the buyer's specifications, using jobbers and assemblers. The "World Class" line by Tasco would have been pretty much as good as any other decent hunting scope at the time - Redfield, Leupold, etc. From that era, I would think the variable power scope's seals and mechanisms would have been a bit "iffy" compared to today's, and of course, the various lens coatings just did not exist. For price, etc. maybe consider a used Leupold M8-4x or M8-6x - I still have them on several rifles - no complaints at all...
 
I had a 3-9x40 Banner on a 7.62x39 CZ527. It lasted only a few shots and then the crosshairs went crooked in it. Never had such a piece of junk scope in all my days.
 
You really should move up from a new age Banner, considering your experience with Nightforce. I can see getting an inexpensive fixed power...once it's set, leave it alone.
 
I ahve one Banner and its having issues. Its a 1.5-4.5. Its fine on low magnification but get above say 2.5x and the crosshairs start to go funny. Blurry isnt the right word. Something goes wrong with the focus. Im going to send it in for warranty work, which I expect will amount to them sending me a new one.
 
20 or 25 yrs ago I had one. Lost an opportunity on a bull elk. Every time I turned up the power to see if the elk was legal the scope went black. What a piece of crap.
 
Id look for an elite or ultra legend hd. Ive had both on a 458wm and they held up just fine. Im really liking my new bushnell forge 1-8x30 but its a beast with its 34mm tube
