Does anyone have any experience with bushnell's Elite 1500 Range Finder? Does it function well and is it rugged or does it have the well built "feel"? Bushnell makes decent stuff in my limited experience with them.

Limited experience around a store, in good weather. It functioned pretty well, and has a so-so feel to it, no worse than most out there.

I bought one about 2 months ago. It seems allright for the pricing.

The only problem so far was the rubber guard around the eyepeice came loose and spun on the eyepeice (turn for focusing). It was just glued on so I re-glued it and all is ok.

Bushnell says 1000 yards for non-reflective targets and 1500 for reflective. I have managed 1100 yards on a tree-row at the end of a field which is what I would consider non-reflective. You have to hold the rangefinder very steady to range anything over a few hundred yards. You pretty much need to lean on something or use a camera tripod over 1000.

Simple to use, well built and comes with a nice carry case and strap. I think some of the Nikon stuff may be comparible but other than that the only better stuff is likely the way more expensive Leica, Leopold, Swarovski etc. They were out of my price range but likely worth the money.

,.

Ya why not try Costco and see if we can eliminate another sporting goods store or 2 or maybe we can get rid of all of them........
come on guys sometimes its worth paying an extra 5% ...

Besides next time you are at Costco or Wallmart ask the helpful guy or girl at the sports counter if they think the 1500 will pick up a deer at 500 yrds at dusk . I bet you will get a very rewarding answer , probably your 5% worth.....

Well that was my $.05 worth .
OOOOPs hope it didn't offend anyone :)
WINCHESTER

So 5% of $490 at S.I.R. is what? - $24.50

I can think of a lot of things that I'd buy with $24.50, and I don't think S.I.R. is gonna close down over that lost sale either. I'd say give the guy a break and don't give him too much grief for looking for the best deal.

That was my $.05, which you will notice isn't worth anymore than winchester 070's comment, just so you know that I'm not trying to pick a fight :)

Hey Max Owner, your location in your profile reminds me of my own situation - A sookie boy like me who misses home :)

If you're buying to support your local shop, then they should have kick ass customer service, or at the very least be pleasant.

After seeing this thread and doing a little reserach I think I'm going to try to find a Elite 1500 for myself.

Pretty tempting to buy one and try it out. I still can't imagine that they are on par with the Swarovski 8x30 guide laser range finder.

Having used the 1200 Leica, the 8x30 Swarovski was the next purchase but the more I think about it, carrying binoculars and a laser is a real pain.

May have to go to the BRF 7x42............ we'll have to sell our sole and my 8x42 Leicas....................

Just for the record, Bushnell doesn't make these, just slaps their name on them. They are made by a company called Laser Technology Inc.. the same guys who make the industry standard LTI Marksman 20-20 and LTI UltraLyte police LIDAR speed enforcement equipment (aka Laser Radar) used by the majority of Canadian law enforcement departments. Laser Tech knows their stuff, and has some serious US defence contracts and designed equipment on the space shuttles for laser ranging. Dealing with their (Laser Tech's) products on a daily basis I have no doubts that these are the best of the best.

I WANT A LEICA RANGEFINDER   god they're awesome. I hit a tree @ 780 yards with one no sweat. My POS Bushnell YardagePro500 licks balls. :|

Any chance of finding out the technical specs on the laser itself. Evidently the Leica 1200 had one of the best ability to pick up on small objects - short wavelength....

Thanks for the link.

I guess the normal question is, are they the same specs or does Bushnell have a choice which could mean you are either getting better or worse components.
