Looking at a new scope for my Winchester XPR 300wm. The fella at the gun shop was trying to steer me in the direction of a Bushnell Elite 4500 2.5-10x 50. His pitch was good, reliable glass with decent warranty. Anyone’s thoughts on this scope series or alternative suggestions would be appreciated. I will hunt with this rifle mostly with a little target shooting. Thanks

Own a Bushnell Elite 4200 2.5-10x40.
Pretty decent scope for the money with good glass.
Dials are pretty accurate.
Some say the eye relief is a little short.
It was on a 30-06 and it seemed OK to me.
Sold the 30-06. It’s a spare now.
Maybe they improved that when they went from the 4200 - 4500 version?

Heard they went from japanese glass to chinese glass with the 4500.
If that’s the case it was a downgrade.
Japanese glass is pretty good glass.

Sometimes version ‘upgrades’ are about decreasing production costs and improving profit not quality.
My Elite 4200 is on par with the Leupold VX-3i scopes I own and that is definitely a compliment to the brand.
Can’t speak with any knowledge or experience about the Elite 4500s.

I'd take a 4200 over the 4500's as well.
Then again, I wouldn't waste any $$ on a Bushynill now.
At least, nawt new.

Glass on the 4500 series is Japanese. LOW is the company, I have 3500, 6500 and have had 4500 , B&L 3000 . All excellent scopes and have never had an issue with any of them. Go for the 40mm objective. What reticle are you looking at and which store? Misty River or is there a shop in Rupert?

They make bigger lenses for a reason. All things being equal, meaning same glass, design etc then A 50mm is more than 50% more light gathering capability over a 40mm if that is important to you. A 56mm is roughly 23% more than a 50mm....You can turn the power up and have a higher twilight factor.....just something to consider.....
