Bushnell ERS/XRS Zero Stop Question

Wondering if any ERS or XRS user can help me with a quick question.

I followed to user manual to reset (not set) my zero stop. This involved using a flat head screw driver and turning the inner screw downwards until it stops, then backing it off 1/4 turn to take it off the bottom.

When I do this process is also screws down my elevation to the point where I have to re-zero my scope. For example, if my zero was 10 mils up from the bottom and I reset my zero stop all the way to the bottom it will move my zero 10 mils down as well. I then have to go rezero my scope.

I was wondering if this is working as intended? It seems very inconvenient, but there also doesnt appear to be anythign wrong with the scope to me.

I have to two set screws out all the way.

Thanks for any advice on this issue. The Zero Stop has honestly been a huge pain for me.

You may want to check out a thread on Snipers Hide, its titled Zero stop XRS, it may give you some insight into the zero stop feature.

I've looked at a lot of the posts on the hide. A lot of guys seem to be having trouble with these. Unfortunately none of those posts pertain to my specific question, which is if by resetting the zero stop the scope also gets rezerod. It seems to me that this should not happen, but there does not appear to be any mechanical error in the scope to cause this. So I am just confused.

I own 2 ERS, seems like most are "hearing clicks" as they adjust the zero stop & are thinking that the turrets are moving? I guess that's not the case, it's normal. I haven't adjusted mine yet so I don't have any "hands on" experience for ya.

Ya I am not worried about hearing the clicks. I know that is normal.

Once again I am referring to RESETTING the zero stop and not SETTING the zero stop. I understand how to set it and it is very easy to do.

I am wondering once it is set, how do you move the zero stop down if you need to. When I followed the reset instructions it changed my entire point of impact. It moved my point of impact with the reset. I was wondering if anyone else has this

Yes that will work to drop it a couple mils. And it may just be what I have to resort to. I've tried it before and it seemed to work. There is nothing in the manual about that though so I didn't know if you dialed it a lot that way if it would have a negative impact or not. I also just wanted to see if anyone had experience with the manuals reset procedure.

But yes helpful suggestion.

Once you undo the zero stop, the scope has to be re-zeroed. That is a pain in the a** but it's normal for that scope. I did the same think you did and thinking it was zeroed but when I went back to the range and took a shot at 100y to confirm, POI was about 11 mils high. I love the scope but hate how the zero stop is set up. I don't bother to set it anymore, I just go by the hash marks and I also write down how many mils down from the zero til it bottoms out. In my case, it has 5.2 mils left from 100y zeroed.

Thank you!

Just the answer I was looking for. Yes I agree it is a dumb system. I think mildot is on the right track with his solution though. Shocking it is not in the manual...

I'm also interested in the ERs / XRS scope
Was a toss up between this and a Sightron
I like the fact you have a zero stop on some of the Bushnell Tactical scopes, not so with the Sightron I was looking at
Nightforce has nice zero-stops but a bit out of my price range
What other optics did you look at before buying the Bushnell ERS / XRS

My choice was busnell before sigtron for zero stop and I like my ERS 3.5-21x 50mm for the price .The zero stop is not simple but work , the lens its clears and the G2 reticule work good .

I thought that I'd throw this up for you guys, I know it's unrelated but it's useful.

Butler Creek Flip up lens caps are;

I switch from a Sightron S3 to the ERS.

Bushnell is FFP, high speed turrets, Zero Stop, Locking Turrets

Sightron is SPF, 5 mil turrets, Standard Turrets

Honestly they are just popular at different things. Sightron is popular in F-Class, Bushnell is popular in PRS. They serve different roles in my opinion.

I've looked at many other optics before getting the ERS. I have a Viper PST, Sightron S3, looked at the DMR and Nightforce NXS. Myself I am not a fan of the Nightforce. I know that is not a popular opinion, but I feel you pay more than what you get (incoming disagreements). The DMR is a very good option if highspeed turrets and zero stop mean nothing to you, it has a ton of value. Between the Viper PST and the Sightron I prefer the sightron. Better glass and turrets/tracking meant more to me than illumination and a Zero limiter.

I have read a lot about the XRS and really like the scope. I have heard conflicting stories though about the optical quality. Some say at 30x it is quite poor, some say it is not. I have not looked through one myself. I can tell you that at 21x the glass quality on the ERS is quite good. I've owned 2 ERS now and the glass quality on both was very impressive. They also have a really nice eye relief and large FOV.

So if you know your purposes and price range I could better help you out.

I took the plunge and ordered an ERS 3.5-21, FFP, zero-stop, and G2 reticle
Comes in FDE too, maybe that will improve the optical quality...
It will be mounted on a Remington 700P which already has a 20MOA rail on it
I don't have any experience on how to calculate scope ring height that I need
Can someone chime in with some advice on how to figure out the height I need

If you have a rail medium rings will work. I have Vortex Precision Matched 34mm.
