So here's the deal! I've got this buddy of mine who's determine to plant a bushnell scope on top of a Barrett .50BMG! I'm trying to convince him not to waste his money! Can anyone offer up some solid arguments or data to support my argument? Or am I just being an anti-bushnell ass?

Which model? They make everything from Tasco quality chinese garbage to high end Japanese almost night force quality scopes.

LOL this!

There's nothing wrong with a Bushnell scope. Like mentioned they make some low end optics that fit a market at a particular price point but almost every company does. The Elite lineup of scopes have given me years of trouble free service and are for the most part still made in Japan.

Of course if your friend has a Barret .50 cal im sure he has the funds available to jump the price point of his optic up into the relm of NF or S&B.

So depends on the model. Personally, having spent so much on a nice (and hard recoiling) rifle I'd be happier with a NF NXS but your buddy may now be out of budget so he may have little choice.

heck even an old scopechief would work. they are one of the few scopes that can take the beating of dual recoil of springers, and big recoil of the 50 cal. any new bushnell 3200 and up will work fine. just don't expect it to go much past 2000 rounds. its not unreasonable to expect a scope to wear out, much like a a barrel, or even a hammer, everything in life wears out.

Some of the new Elite Tactical scopes are within NF and Leupold Mark 4 series range.
