I am planning to upgrade the scope on my Savage 12fv .223.
I have a Bushnell Trophy XLT 6-18 on it right now. It will probably move to my 10-22.

I am trying to decide between the Bushnell Elite 3200 7-21 x 40AO and the Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24 x 40AO Multi X.
There is not a big difference in price between the two.
I'm hoping someone here has experience with one or both scopes and can offer some advice.

The rifle will be used for target shooting at the range .

Thanks in advance.

I have not used the 3200 but have 3 4200s. In particular one is a 4x16 AO and the other an 8x32 AO. I really think these scopes were great value. Although there is not a heck of a lot of vertical for really long range and the cross hairs are a little thicker than I would like I have personally not found a better scope for the same prices I paid for them at the time.
Having said that scopes seem to have increased in price and my next will likely be a Sightron SIII.

My experience with the Elite Series would be the 4200 will be more clear, maybe crisp should be the word.
Both good bang for the buck.
If my nickel, it would be the 4200.

I ordered the Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24 x 40AO Multi X this morning.
I should see it early next week.

I hope you've handled that scope. While it looks good on paper, it's a mile long and isn't very forgiving with respect to eye relief and eye positioning. I find the 4-16x40 in 4200 to be much easier to work with. Also really impressed with my Sightron SII and SIIB's.

I have not handled this scope. Where I live that is not an option. I'm not concerned with the length of the scope 16.9" .
My experience with scopes is that the higher the magnification the more critical eye relief and alignment become. With the 6-18 scope that is on the rifle just turning the magnification down to 12 makes a big difference.
If I'm not happy with it I can always return it. A slow process with Canada Post.

I changed my mind at the last minute and ordered the 3200 elite 7-21. I am impressed with it. It's very clear. With the 6-18 trophy XLT that I returned it was difficult to see the .22" holes in the target at 100 yards. They are easy to see with this scope.

The 4200 is rated at 95% light transmission, via "fully" multicoated lenses.

The 3200 is rated at about 91%, with multicoated lenses.

I've owned a number of 3200 Elites, and are great scopes for the money...underrated IMHO.

I've done some shooting with a 4200 4-16x40, and I'm inclined to suggest that they are at least equal to a Leupold VX-III (I own one), if not superior, in sharpness and clarity. These also have 1/8" adjustments instead of the usual 1/4", which if you're into fine target shooting could be a bit of an advantage.

If you can pick up a 4200 for a few extra bucks over the 3200, really well worth it!
