I have to give credit to Bushnell for standing by their product. About a year and half ago I sent a 13 year old Bausch and Lomb Balvar back for repair. It was slow but they did fix it and send it back to me. After a year it started to act up again. This was kind of disappointing for a high end scope but it has seen a fair bit of use and every company turns out a few bad ones.

I sent it back again with a note explaining that it had already been in for repair once and that I'd appreciate replacement so I can go out into the field with confidence. Today I received a Bushnell 4200 1.5-6x36 at no charge to replace my old Balvar. I call that good service indeed.

I would say Bushnell warranty sucks you know what...I sent them a pair of binos that had never been in the field and the lense inside had a hair line crack in it...they sent it back saying they had been abused??? They had never been used let alone abused

I will never buy another bushnell product!!!

Harv, I had the same thing happen.

Thought about it for a while, cooled down, and then phoned their 800 number and asked to speak to the manager of the warranty department. Explained that I had sent them for warranty repair, that there was not a mark on the binocs, and asked how they had come to the conclusion that they had been abused.

They looked at the binocs again, then sent me a new pair of better binocs. That is what should have happened the first time, but they did make it right. :D

If they are unused, then they should be replaced. Don't give up, just go up the ladder until you speak to someone who can make the correct decision.

I sent a 6-18x50 Dusk and Dawn in this past fall that I bought used and would not hold it's zero and received a brand new one just a couple of wks ago. All it cost me was 10$ for shipping.

I found the US repair center for Bushnell to be very bad. Every one (pre 4000 series/4200 series) that was sent back had more problems when they returned.

As far as binoculars go, I had a similar experience with Nikon USA. Something was rattling loose inside them after using them in -25C weather. I sent them to Nikon and they accused me of crushing them. These things were always case stored and in a small light equipment box. My guess is it was the exposure to the sub zero temp. After copious piles of paper correspondence I took their offer to buy a their highend rubber coated binoculars. +400USD. When I received them, the rubber coating was already deteriorating and had cracks around the objectives. I immediate sent them back thinking the first time I sent them in for repair or warranty I would be again blamed for abusing them. They then went on to say I was too picky and that the cracks were normal in natural rubber coatings. Which is BS since its normally UV exposure that causes the cracks and this takes time. There shouldn't be any cracks in a new out of the box product.....

Got my $$$$ back and never went back. Now their new tactical scopes are creating some interest again but they still don't have the power range I am looking for....

For warranty - Leupold and Weaver have always been first rate and second to none.

I have heard stories about poor and inconsistent customer service from Bushnell.

I have used their customer only once. Had a 30+ year old Custom 22 scope dropped off at their Markham HQ for cleaning. They did it for me within 30 minutes while I waited and served me with coffee. No question asked. :D

Another hater of Bushnell warrenty here. Sent an older Scopechief RF/BDC that had a broken crosshair and they claimed abuse. They returned it unrepaired and offered to sell me another scope at $20 less than Wholesale Sport's price. After speaking to them, it was apparent that they would not uphold their "warrenty". I will never purchase their inferior junk products again...KF

I don't like Bushnell warrenty either it SUCKS big time.I sent in 2 scopes for repair They said were abused ...dropped I didn't drop them, but maybe my Dad did...anyway sent in $124.00 for replacements...waited 6 weeks never heard anything...gave them a call, they said no replacements available, should get them in 2 weeks, nothing showed up called again said they said both on the way ...2 weeks later 1 shows up,phone Bushnell again ask were is the other scope reply was still on back order.....I said enough B.S. just refund my money for the 2nd scope......still waiting for a refund .total time since the scopes were sent 6 MONTHS.......Never again will I buy anything Bushnell ... service = NFG

List me amoung the Bushnell haters, both the scopes and the warranty. The average time for turn around repair work was about 3 months, but the bigger problem is that they constantly broke (3000-3200s), and eventually broke (4000-4200s). 11 returns in 2 1/2 years cured me. I have one 3-9 left that Bushnell fixed and sent back. I have had it on my PE90 for 1 week and something black and fabulous is floating around inside. 4-5 range sessons on a .223 and it is coming apart. I can hardly wait for my 30mm rings to get here so I can mount up the Loopy LR I have for it.

Y2K,
It seems to me that the Elites have a no reason needed, return for refund policy now. You might still have a way out of this, which is better than the bath I took on a bunch of them.
Just for giggles try to trade a Bushnell in at Wholesale Sports or other bigger dealer some time. They will usually give 80% of wholesale price for minty examples, but the object is just to get them to show you their cost on that crap. Hell, if you think you're mad now:eek:

warrenty

I have sent in 4 scopechief 2.5x8 and all have been fixed or replaced with a 2x7 3200 with in 3 weeks so i have been lucky but what bothers me about their scopes is that they eventually all seem to need repair, and breakdowns in the field are unaccepable in my opinion so all of my rifles now are equipped with VXII 3x9 leupold, I have'nt had a problem since.
