I just have a bushnell range finder and it helps big time. Quite often I over estimate the distance. This would be the differnce between hit and miss on most of my estimates.
I had a Bushnell Yardage PRo500. I sold it at a loss because it wouldn't range a deer at 200 yards under ideal conditions. I bought a Leupold RXIII, now that's a range finder.
