So as some may remember I got an old SMLE a while back. It was a mess and so i have been slowly taking it apart and cleaning it up. Took the bolt all apart and got it cleaned up nicely. When I went to put the bolt head back together I followed some instructions that said replace the extractor and extractor screw first, then push the extractor spring in place with a small tool. Without much force the extractor spring busted in half  .

So, once I track down another spring (don't know how I am going to do that) has anyone found a trick for putting the bolt head back together without busting all the parts?

Thanks!
Evan

Assembling the extractor.

My method is to install the spring first into its position making sure its little knubby is located in the hole. Then using a pair of fine needle nose pliers on the spring and outside face of bolt head, I compress it enough to slip the extractor under it and into place, then install screw.

Works like a charm, never had a problem, just be gentle and careful not to scratch the blue on bolt head.

Another method that works, is to use a doubled loop of dental floss to pull the spring into place. Yes, I have done it. You just have to remember to double it as only one strand will break.
