Butler Creek / Choate SKS Stock

I was thinking of buying a synthetic stock for my sks
i was going to go with butler creek or choate
does anyone have any experiences
good or bad with any of these sks stocks
any advice is appreciated

I have the Choate Dragunov on one of mine. The fit onto the rifle was very good. Ergonomically for me it shoulders wonderfully and is probably one of the most comfortable stocks I have.

I know others who have the Tapco and Butler Creek stocks but I didn't find them as comfortable. However, if possible, try and shoulder some stocks before you buy as you may prefer the fit of those.

I have the Tapco and Choate Dragunov stocks for the SKS sitting gathering dust in the corner, the original wooden stocks are wearing longer rubber butt plates, the wooden stocks are lighter and the injection molded plastic stock are much more heavier. The wooden stocks also have a functioning recoil lug to lock the receiver into position that prevents the barreled action from shifting around.

I have a Choate black fixed 'sporter' style stock I could be convinced to part with as I don't plan on using it at the moment. . .

I picked up a Russian SKS from a fellow CGN'er with the Dragunov style stock. The only thing I don't like is the fact that I had to take a file to some of the sharp edges, and the disassembly lever for the bolt cover hits the stock when I try to take it apart without demounting the whole action. Mind you, a little work with a rat-tail file will take care of that easily. In terms of feel though, it's wonderful for me. I think people with shorter arms may have a problem with the length of pull. For sure, try some out, and see what works best for you. Lots of luck.

My father-in-law has a Butler Creek stock on his. It's ok. I didn't find it significantly better than the original SKS stock. I myself wouldn't upgrade to the Butler Creek just because it didn't really change anything for me vs the wood. Going to the Choate Dragunov gave the rifle (Chinese model hardware) a whole new feel when shouldering/shooting. I have a few Russian pieces that will stay in factory form.
