Butler Creek combo at the range

My Butler Creek combo and CPC bolt arrived today so off to the range to break in the barrel.

I was shooting at the USBR official target....broke the barrel in using Remington high velocity and then decided to shoot el cheapo CTC American Eagle.

Sixty shots breaking in with religious cleaning and then I shot these targets at 25 yards with variable winds gusting at times.

The upper three targets on the first photo are single shots only all the others are 5 shot groups. Best group measure .1875 centre to centre.

The CPC new bolt performed flawlessly eliminating my previous stove piping problems.... even with the American Eagle.

My passion is long range centre fire ( .243 and .308) and I am used to glass bedding and free floating barrels but am more than pleased with my used 10/22 that I bought last week from a neighbor.

Most centre fire barrels reach their utmost accuracy after 500 to 600 rounds have moved thru the pipe.....what's the low down on .22 rimfires?

Looking forward to trying some Eley or Lapua ammo to see if the groups tighten up.

I find barrel accuracy is best after about 500-1000 rounds or so. I find Lapua superclub works well in my 10.22.

Where abouts did you order the USBR target from?

I will find out for you and PM you....we have a USBR shoot every Sunday morning at the range in Osoyoos and I bought them at the club. I'm used to breaking in centre fire rifles using bullets with copper jackets. With the Butler Creek I followed the shoot one then clean for 10 rounds and then shoot 5 and clean for the next 50. With soft lead bullets how is it possible that they can lap the barrel and remove imperfections?

Thanks. That USBR target shoot sounds like a lot of fun (as I shoot them at least once a month for postal matches on rimfire central). I am not exactly sure the answer to your question, but I do know that with my targets gun I break the gun in with a round like Lapua superclub or Eley Practice ammo and my others guns like my CZ and 10/22 I broke in with high velocity ammo like Federal AE.
