Butt outs? Worth buying or not?

I carry everything I need to deal with a dead animal in my little pack, but I don't want any "gadgets" that add nothing to my ability. If I don't need it, I won't carry it. A good knife can do it all.

I did a deer that was 220 on the hook at the meat cutters (no head or hide) the other year with an old buck 119. Pop pop pop. Go around the side of the breastbone not the center.

Like I said it cannot always be done on a BIG buck. I have seen it. Also much easier on game that is stiff and hanging rather than one that is fresh.

Anyways I always bring a saw just in case a knife won't cut it. For a saw I just use a cheapy folding saw from crappy tire.

I also like to cut out the ridge on the pelvic bone (cut along both sides) and pull the intestine through. The Danger with this method is cutting the bladder open with the saw.

Ok mission was a failure. Had a monster jump right out in front of me. Course I was carrying the pack, blind and fold up chair..crossbow was semi packed and empty to. Anyhow set up for awhile saw a huge buck just out of range.

I looked around and found where the beast is sleeping, so I will return with my new freshly bought butt out tool! I got a cheapo saw as well. Today was raining alot but it was good to be out.

Ill post some pics tommorow. Appreciate the help from you guys, it makes stuff alot easier. Thanks again.

Really hard on the knife though. I prefer not to nick or cut through bone. I just gut them the old fashioned way, but the butt out seems like it saves a lot of time.

Heart is great..

slice of raw liver with a bit of salt is great as well. Its also great fried with onions and bacon.

When me and my buddies hunt, we try use just about the entire animal.

neck meat, although tough, marinated and slow cooked is good, same with the facial meat.

Doe breasts are quite tender and tasty as well when chopped up and pan fried.

Boiling down the skull, other bones, feet ect to extract the marrow. and the fat skimmed off, and stored in the fridge is great for adding to soups, or for using as a "balm" for stiff joints and achy muscles.

The Stomach you can clean out and cook as you would beef tripe.

Kidneys, cook them like you would beef or pork kidney

Lungs are good as well, just trim off all the bronchial tubes and use a meat tenderizer to beat the lungs down to get the air out of them. chop them up and pan fry or what ever.

Intestines, clean and rince them out and use as sausage casings. Or soak them in water and vinegar as you would prepping beef tripe. boil them and pan fry and add to your sturfries

Bladders can be cleaned and cooked up as well as the pancreas.

Marinade and slow cook the tongue as well.

the brain can be soaked, then boiled, then cut up and pan fried.

eyes can either be eaten raw, or boiled.

Tail can be boiled and added to a soup.

If you really feel brave boil the #####, cut it up and add to a soup.

The hide can be easily and naturally tanned at home (lots of info online)

Although, I am pondering boiling a small section of hide to remove the hair and fat, and then deep fry it. I think it may end up being like crispy chicken skin..

Bones can be ground down and used as fertilizer for your garden.

The contents of the stomach and intestines can be used as fertilizer as well.

I encourage all of you the next time you kill an animal to think about trying a part (or a few) of it you haven't tried before.

There is so much of the animal that can be eaten or used then just besides the meat.

But coyotes need to eat too!!! No better bait than fresh innards. That's using all of the animal, isn't it?

I use the "tongue to bum" method. One long incision from the tip of the jaw to the arsehole. Core the arse and the urinary tract. Split the ribs and take everything out in one piece from the tongue to the anus. Leaves the cleanest carcasse possible.

I find if u cut the stomach afterwards, the birds and buzzerds will be on it in miniutes and all traces of the internals gone in about an hour.

This thread makes me think that youtube could use yet another 'how to' video. Rememberance day weekend I will whip something up. I might even try the 'tongue to bum' method but only after I come up with a different name for it!! :p

Some pics from the day.
