Butt pad / plate options??

Gents,

I have a Brno 452 that I bought with a rotten ventilated recoil pad in place of the original plastic butt plate.
I have been looking / asking for another original butt plate, but cannot find one to date. [ Anyone have one?? ]
I am refinishing the stock [ tung oil ] and will need a replacement fairly soon so I can get it in shooting form.

If I must install a recoil pad of sorts, I would like it to be a firm rather than soft-gummy-sticky material. I don't like a sticky pad to hang up on clothes. I would also like it to be thin......10mm or so, not too thick.
It will need to be grindable, so I can make it fit the stock.
I don't care if it says "Beretta" or "Remington" or Pachmayr, or whatever on it.........it just need to fit my criteria as mentioned. Not looking for cheesy ideas like "just use flip flops" etc. lol


Have been thinking of other options......like making a solid leather pad by gluing thick leather onto a hardwood spacer plate......might be attractive and functional.....anyone done this?
Or.....a solid wood plate 10mm thick, maybe from iron wood, rosewood etc? Anyone done this?

Go to your local gunsmith who does recoil pads. He should have a bunch of old butt plates. Find one that is slightly larger and sand it to fit. If there is a name on it remove with a sharp tool and sand.
 
The rosewood idea could look nice if pulled off with a nice piece.

All of your ideas work. The kicker would be work involved. The flip flop idea is not a bad idea, as shoe material has to withstand a lot more than recoil, and could certainly be worked to be suitable. If the butt is flat you could even use steel strip and just give it some garage time.
 
I haven't explored old butt plates yet. Might find something suitable at an up-coming gun show..........but then again, might not, and so another month goes by.

Of the new, off the shelf pads, which is firm, not sticky, thin and grindable? Pachmayr? Beretta? Limbsaver? Obviously, the dampening equation of a pad is not needed for a .22 lr.

Yes, even a .125" piece of brass or steel plate would work for me. I don't mind investing the effort to make something decent, just looking for pics or links from others that have done something similar.
