Come into possession of a Ruger No 1 (.338) and admittedly do not know much about the No 1.
But, I do know it needs a replacement butt stock. (shortened and then lengthened with black plastic)
Is this a Dealer/Warranty Rep. replacement part or are there other options?
Any pointers or tips on where to search appreciated.
Thanks,
Rob

I contacted snapshots in december of 2019, they informed me it would have to be sent to them for a replacememt stock, and they were supposed to provide me a price. I followed up again a month later, but i have never recieved a quote. The project changed so I stopped following up.

Try NorthPro Sports, they can get a stock for you.

I have a stock that is unfinished, for a project gun. It's shaped and 95% inletted. Needs sanding and finishing. Walnut.

PM if interested.

I purchased a butt stock from Snapshots a few years ago. They didn't want to sell me a butt stock, unless they installed it either. However, once I got past their secretary and spoke to the manager, things changed.

If you tell him that you're doing a build, which lets them off the hook for warranty, they will sell you a finished stock.

One thing about Ruger No1 butt stocks is that they aren't just bolt on replacements. They need to be fitted to each rifle properly or they will crack right behind the tang if there isn't proper clearance.

Funny how the timing goes...
I sent an email Friday or Saturday and got a reply this afternoon (PST) suggesting $250-350 plus an hour to fit the stock.
Also mentioned I would need to supply the serial number to get the exact model needed, just like WGP in Alberia they need the serial numbers for inventory.
No mention if that is Ca. dollhairs or American.

I contacted snap shots last year and this was the reply:

Butt stock on these rifle are factory fitted so the rifle need to come here to have the new butt stock installed and fitted. Normally butt stock are around 250$-300$ and forend is another 150$-200$. Installation is another 75$-125$ plus shipping both ways. Let me know and I’ll get the exact part# needed from Ruger.

A follow up email and they said I could have the old ones back.

I have a #1 and the butt stock needs a higher comb and the length of pull is too long with a limbsaver pad. Would like to find a semi finished butt stock with a higher comb role over cheek piece etc. but no luck. Really surprised cause most were built for open sights and have read it is a common problem. Guess the inletting is the problem but I could match to the original. Any ideas?

I'm still awaiting a return message from a NorthPro sports on a time frame (if possible) for an oem one from Ruger USA.
SnapsShots suggested $250-$350 + a $75 fitment fee of course shipping both ways and it suddenly becomes a $500.00 + bill.

Rob, I took some pics of the unfinished stock I told you about.

I'm having a computer issue right now with getting them downloaded. Likely my own fault. When I get it figured out, I will send them to you.

I believe I have read on several forums that ruger will not sell #1 wood without fitting it, that goes for both USA and Canada. That’s not a snapshots thing, but rather Rugers policy.

I have seen factory #1 wood on eBay from time to time, but they usually sell for more than you would expect. And then you would need to go through an importer I believe. Also, Luxus walnut had some factory take offs a handful of years ago when they were restocking #1’s. You could try them, but I imagine they have sold by now.

Will have to buy one of those cheek pieces I guess. Maybe we can find something if we ever get back to the States. A few years ago I bought a butt stock for a model 97 Winchester at a gun show in N. On. from a guy who said he used a copy machine. If I find his name I'll post it.
