buttstock interchange: jungle carbine

Howdy.

Trade ex has no4 buttstocks in stock. Would they fit my jungle carbine?

Now for a bubba question: My oldest is 12 next year, and we tested my rifles today, and the only thing that he would be able to shoot and hold up would be the jungle carbine. I am thinking of getting a no4 buttstock, cutting it down to reduce the LOP, putting a cheap recoil pad on for a butplate, then putting the original buttstock on once his arms are long enough.

Is there an easier way to do this?

Everything i have read about the Lee enfield Jungle carbine says that it kicks like a horse. never shot one yet but they all do say they kick like a horse.... Do a google search and some reading.

Hi there YKD,

You may be able to find a "Bantam"-length stock which will fit and could be short enough. Or, there may be someone in here who already has one that'd be ready to go on your rifle (please don't cut the Jungle butt stock!)

The No4 and No5 Lee Enfields have the same butt socket.

I would recommend a reduced, light load for a 12 years old shooting that rifle...

No 4 butt stock fits fine.Thing kicks hard cause of the stupid so called narrow recoil pad. Cut a No 4 stock down and throw a limbsaver recoil pad on it he'll be fine.We were shooting no4 and no 5's (privately owned not the Corps) when we was young in Cadets.He's just about that age he'll do fine.And I see you have the good scene not to bubba the original.Good show. Now don't forget limbsaver recoil pad.It cost a bit more but its worth it.
 
Thanks for all the advice. Will ask Tradex if they have a bantam stock. I remember 20 odd years ago when I did my basic, they sized the fn to us (had different sized buttstocks).
The safe is full and I shouldn't buy any other arms. I have a few Swedes, but the forend weight is too heavy for him to support, the jungle carbine is about the best. I will not bubba it! But I will try the no 4 short buttstock, and yes, I will reload some really light loads for him to start, and gradually work him up to a reduced hunting load.

Not all No.4s are the same as the No.5 at the butt stock/socket. My No.4 Mk2 (ROF Faz) was interchangeable with my No.5 (also an ROF Faz) but a Long Branch No.4Mk1* I had was different.
