Buy a handgun and store elsewhere

I'm a Canadian citizen living on another continent.
Out of defiance I want to buy a handgun in Canada and store it somewhere else. Unfortunately I am not a resident of Canada any more and been living elsewhere for past 25 years.
I have a valid RPAL which I renew just for fun.
Can I buy and list other address as a storage? Is there any place in Canada that will let me store a pistol on their location? I plan to join a range in Canada and shoot when I'm on vacation. Ideally I would be interested in a locker rental that is authorized for restricted firearm storage. Any such place around?

Where in Canada? You may not be able to buy (your transfer won't be approved) if you are not a member of a club, unless your address on file is Ontario. (you might be able to add notes to the transfer request with an explanation that it will be stored elsewhere until your return to Canada and they _might_ be ok with it)

If you have a friend with an RPAL, you can buy and store with them, the certificate will be in your name so C-21 won't affect it.

And yes, many businesses are authorized to store. But this is usually a paid service unlike storing with a friend. If we know where in Canada you intend to be based, we can provide better suggestions. You might be able to cut a deal with the business to store the gun for you if you buy from them... Though, now that I think of it, you might be able to strike a deal like that with any seller on the EE here - just need to discuss all the details etc. I'd store a gun for you if you buy one of mine ;)

I am considering 401 corridor Windsor to London, ON not going anywhere east of London Airport. If I decide to return and run my own business, it will be located somewhere in this region. I always land on Pearson when I'm go to Canada and this region is not far.

I understand it works a bit differently:
You can own the Handgun but if you wish to store the Handgun at your Friends place you must transfer it to him via CFC because he is now in control of the Handgun and as far the RCMP concerned the new Owner.
But,
When you wish to take this (your) Handgun to the Range you must apply for a ATT from your Friends Place to Shooting Range and return.

Cheers

100% incorrect. Have stored my friend's pistols at my place while he was going through a divorce, they remained registered to him, he only had to get an ATT to bring to my place. And another ATT to bring back to his new house after everything was settled.

Edit: Are these provincial differences? My experience is for Ontario. Or there's always that option of the agent on the phone at the CFP no knowing what they are doing (I'm shocked! We are all shocked, right?)

GTA Gun auctions in Newmarket have a storage facility (they caught a lot of flak when they brought it online) but that's a bit East of your intended location. Bullseye North are in London but unsure if they offer storage.

Either way, I believe this has a reasonable chance of success. Good luck! If you get stuck or have questions along the way feel free to reach out - happy to help (as most here are too)

I've had secondary storage in BC and I've seen people from all across the country say they had it in various provinces.

Most business can store a restricted, and as well as prohibited , if they are licenced for that.
I do not have a clue if you can buy one when you are not in the country, never run into that , I have sold to US buyers , but they where always transferred to a US importer, dealer.
I would suggest that you or a seller in Ont phone the Ont. CFO , If that was your last address, but good luck with that, these days.

One of the larger dealer may have dealt with type of thing in Ontario.

I stored my friend's handguns while he was out of country for a year. They were still registered to him. All he did was phone CFP, tell them he wanted to keep his handguns at my address while he was gone, and get an ATT to move them. When he came back he got another ATT to move them to his new address.

When we moved out of the GTA to a smaller Ontario town when I retired I got an ATT to store at my friends house until we got settled. Then another ATT to our new place. IIRC the only requirement was that he have an RPAL.

The final Authority is the CFC, check with them then you get it from the "Horses" mouth.
