Buyer beware !

Why would someone fake parts they made 10s of thousands of that you can buy anywhere?

Good question. Original dies and stamps can be struck at odd angles which can distort the resulting marks. I once had a stone mint 1950 LB which had the Long Branch markings on the left side struck twice with the stamp. Odd, but it obviously passed government acceptance.

The buyer....if listening to this...must be some mad.

That is interesting comment!! But, almost inevitable, if the extent of the buyer's knowledge is what the entity doing the selling tells him. No different than cars, loading products, etc. if all you go on, is what the sales person says, and do not do any homework for self. Ancient, ancient principle - from Roman times I think - Buyer Beware!! "caveat emptor"

The way these prices are being jacked up, it almost appears that I have a 45k collection. Are these prices really reflecting the true value or are they paper thin and will collapse

Fakes have always been an issue with high collectible firearms. The gun collectors market is filled with them. Look at K98 snipers and all the repro mounts on eBay etc. The new-made Mosin M91/30 PU scopes and mounts. The recent stash release of MOD Lee Enfield parts that have flooded the market over the past few years, NOS stocks, etc... Online sites showing original vs fakes help the forger as much as the collector. It's technical skill/knowledge, training, and experience used in ID'ing stamp quality, fonts and sizes, the finish quality of steel vs wood, oxidation of wood, and metals.

There has always been a strong following of collectors around the world, many rally when fakes show up. Just ask and find out as much info as you can, It's the same with all things you buy.

We all need eyes open. Just a thought.

I suggest that every EE buyer, regardless of what's being purchased, save the web page with the ad complete with all the pictures until the item is received and the purchaser is happy.

From the sold day I still let the rifle with pictures and price for a day or two with the attention:sold.

I personally remove the price because 1) it may not be the actual price realized and 2) gives the buyer some security that if buyers remorse sets in he can repost it at whatever level he thinks fair. Have sold a fair number on the EE and no buyer has found fault with me removing price. I do leave an ad up for a few days after sale just because it is good advertising .

I take my EE adverts down as soon as the EMT is complete and change the heading to 'please remove'

Since I am only allowed so many adverts at once it makes sense to clear out the ones that are complete so I can post a new one should I need to do so,

For sure about the "last week's stamps". But a bit on the buyer's also - everyone wants a "deal" - just have difficulty with notion that they have been "took". Not willing to reveal that, if/when they pass it along - like the guy Schultz on old TV show "Hogan's Heroes" - "I know NOTHING...." (And I am likely dating myself...) Actually see that in a lot of ads - "I am not an expert on these...." - but very willing to price them as authentic - because there is likely a buyer, who knows even less, who will pay that price...

You were absolutely correct. It is now five weeks later and it is for sale again.

This forum seriously needs two rules for EE

1) must post wts With photos
2) not allowed to delete price after selling

Pisses me off to no end to browse ee with nothing but a text desceiptiom or $pf bs

WHY?

Some people don't have the ability to download pics. Most folks will happily send you pics if you pm them with a request.

What someone paid for an item, is their business, not your's.

If you want to know firearms values, the internet has multiple venues.

Why? Still having a price people will still offer to buy it. No price they won't. Also what it is listed does not mean they're worth that much, or sold for that.

Prices have been climbing rapidly.
Buying a collectable? Maybe you should assume that it has been humped until you are satisfied that it is not.
M-1s are great examples. Look at the number of cobbled bitsers offered and the prices that folks pay. I think it was Bruce Canfield who suggested that an all matching M-1 almost invariably has had parts swapped until all have the correct mfr. and drawing numbers to match the receiver. Over 95% of M-1s were refurbished over the years.
Sniper rifles have always commanded a higher price than regular issue rifles. From a dollar standpoint, they are worth humping.
Stamps have been manufactured for years. More varieties are available all the time. Fifty years ago you could get Colt percussion revolver cylinders rerolled.
The Greek and Italian No. 4s had left England before any British upgrades or FTRs were done. Some of them were outstanding examples using all early parts. Cocking pieces with no grooves or half ####; fabricated trigger guards. All the parts that British armourers culled out given the opportunity to do so.
A buyer needs to do the research, and understand exactly what he is buying.

I agree, no need to keep the price when the deal has been made. In this day and age anyone can screen shot a pic of the add. After all you may be buying what is in the add but the add is not yours and plus it keeps the EE free from piles of SPF’s to sort through.

S-I-L came through bird hunting; dropped off the grandson for the aft. Showed me a LE he just picked up... marked SA... had a fresh Parkerizing job, refinished full wood...not varnished thank god.
A 2 groove bore, black is a coal mine. 700 $, the price alone guaranteed it had humped. Outer Cond was too perfect IMO.
He was happy, so I held my tongue and made appreciative noises.

As per EE rules;

Each member is allowed 2 threads of WTS and 2 threads of OfferTT in each of the Equipment Exchange forums. When a thread is no longer valid, it is member’s own responsibility to edit the prefix to “Pls Remove”[click “edit” and then “go advanced”, from there the member can edit the ad prefix, title and text]. To remove an old thread from the limit count, you must change the pre-fix to “Pls Remove”;

There is nothing wrong with rebuilding a sported rifle. There is only a problem if it gets passed off as something that it is not.
